Season Record

Saints: 5-7, last place NFC South
Jets: 3-9, last place AFC East

This is a matchup of teams that struggle to get touchdowns.  The Jets field rookie Zach Wilson at quarterback, without much protection.  The Saints field (maybe) Taysom Hill at quarterback.  Taysom Hill will not be a HOF quarterback… he could have been a Hall of Fame fullback or scatback or slot receiver had he been doing that full time.. He’s a freak athlete… but he hasn’t landed many receptions in the game he has played QB.

The Saints have lost 4 games in a row.  The last loss was to the Dallas Cowboys 27-17, they also lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-29, add in the Bills and Titans and you have a stretch of the season that the Saints promised not to make the playoffs to their fans.  This contest against the Jets they may not want to win… because from here on everything hits the NFL draft and nothing else. If Jameis Winston hadn’t suffered a torn ACL they may have won 2-3 more games and missed whatever stud comes out of this upcoming draft.

The Jets lost their last game to the Eagles, but got an easy win off the lousy Houston Texans the week before.  Jets games have been a dumpster fire this season. They don’t have enough talent despite spending 90 million on free agents in the offseason… They have basically Quinnen Williams on defense (Carl Lawson tore his achilles before the season started) and maybe Zach Wilson on offense…. When he is not throwing interceptions.  There are no insights to how they could be better this season, but they should think about shrink wrapping every player they want for next season and losing out the rest of the games.

Saints vs Jets Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM
The Saints are 5-7 on the season and 5-7 ATS.  They have logged 6 Overs and 6 Unders.  They are a 3-3 coinflip on the road.

The Jets are 3-9 on the season and 3-9 ATS. They have notched 7 Overs and 5 Unders.  They are an encouraging 2-4 in home games.  That number would only be encouraging to a team that has only 3 wins in twelve games.

Offensive Analysis

The Saints are 18th in points per game with 22.8, 24th in yards per game with 317.3.  That breaks down to 25th in passing offense and 14th in rush offense.

The Jets are lousy on offense… 26th in ppg 18.1, 22nd in yards 327.  That breaks down to a lousy lousy 30th in rushing yards with 84.7… but a surprisingly OK 12th in passing yards with 242.3 ypg.  The Jets should absolutely keep their coach… but coach should absolutely audition everyone on the roster for run plays!!  If you accept that you can’t run at all the defense can play you all day long… Run Run Run… try a TE on an end-around… try a double reverse with receivers whose names no one knows… try something to get over 100 yards rushing!

Defensive Analysis

The Saints are much better on defense than on offense.  They are 14th in defending yards by only allowing 346.5 per game.  They are an astounding 5th in the NFL in run defense by only allowing 96.4 yards per game… the problem is of course pass defense where they rank 22nd and give up 250.1 ypg.

Saints vs Jets Prediction
