Devils - Ducks preview, prediction and analysis
Recent results
Devils: won 5-3 at Hurricanes on Tuesday
Ducks: lost 6-3 vs. Oilers on Wednesday
The New Jersey Devils will be playing the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, January 13 in Anaheim, California.
The New Jersey Devils won against the Carolina Hurricanes last Tuesday, January 10 in Raleigh, North Carolina with a score of 5-3. The Devils rank 2nd in the Metropolitan Division. Dawson Mercer’s first two-goal game in the NHL came at an ideal time for the New Jersey Devils. Jonas Siegenthaler, Jesper Boqvist, and Nico Hischier also scored for New Jersey with Hischier’s empty-netter coming with 55 seconds left in the game.
“I’m an offensive player, but I like playing defense and playing that two-way game,” said Mercer, a first-round draft pick in 2020. “To help contribute out there and get this big win is a huge thing for me and I want to make sure I can keep it going.”
“We played one of our best third periods of the year,” New Jersey coach Lindy Ruff said.
The New Jersey Devils have won half of their last 10 games. No major winning streaks providing any predictions for their upcoming games.
The Anaheim Ducks lost against the Edmonton Oilers last Wednesday, January 11 at the Honda Center in Anaheim with a score of 6-2. The Anaheim Ducks rank 8th in the Pacific Division. Sam Carrick and Simon Benoit scored the only points for Anaheim. Making his 28th start of the season John Gibson made 31 saves in two periods of action. Anthony Stolarz stopped all 16 shots he faced in the third.
"The first four goals, we have the puck on our stick. We have control of the puck," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "We should be able to break the puck out and, suddenly, it's on their stick."
The Anaheim Ducks have won three of their last 10 games. Though it may seem that their chances of a win are slim, those prior wins came against some prominent teams, such as the Vegas Golden Knights, and the San Jose Sharks.
"Obviously, they're a good team," forward Sam Carrick said of the Oilers. "You've got to give them a lot of credit; they play fast, they're extremely good at creating offense, so it's a good test for us to figure out that's where we want to get to. The only way to get there is to work."
Prediction
The Devils have seemed to right the ship after that rough patch of losing four of six. With these three wins in four games, the lone loss being against a weird St. Louis team, that’s a win. That Carolina win was something to write home about. The over has cashed in three straight and if it gets to that, the Ducks are in trouble. Devils 5, Ducks 2
