An Eastern Conference matchup between a good team that is missing multiple key starters to injury and illness and the Conference’s worst team who are missing their best player.  It will be a game of mystery.  The Toronto Raptors are missing their leading scorer PF/C Pascal Siakam… they are also missing multiple other big men in rookie C Christian Koloko, PF Precious Achiuwa, and C Khem Birch… to further make matters worse PG Fred VanVleet is Quest with a non-Covid illness.  The team is likely happy that their opponent is the Pistons and they can let these guys sit out while still having a chance.  Plus the Raptors get a chance to play Scottie Barnes at PG… Scottie is wildly skilled and athletic and can play any position on the court outside of Center.  Scottie, a second year player, is the star that the team should be building the roster around.  The Detroit Pistons will be without their best player, PG Cade Cunningham.  Cade is a multi-talented pure 2-way player… at his extreme height and playing the point guard position effectively he draws comparisons to Magic Johnson.  He is not Magic Johnson as Magic Johnson never played on the last place Eastern Conference team already hoping to win the NBA Draft Lottery 14 games into the season.  The Pistons traded for rookie C/PF Jalen Duren on draft day during the summer.  Thai entire season will be spent evaluating the entire roster to see what players will be staying WITH Cade and Jalen and whoever they draft in the upcoming draft?...  Guys like F Saddiq Bey, G Killian Hayes, G Jaden Ivey, C Isaiah Stewart.. Could all be brought back or all sent out in trades.

The Toronto Raptors are on a two-game losing streak.  The injury list they are dealing with is full of starters and growing.  They lost their last game to the Indiana Pacers 118-104.  OG Anunoby got 26 points, 19 for Chris Boucher, and 15 from Thaddeus Young.  It was a whimper of a performance. Scottie Barnes (the team’s young great player) had his second really bad game in the last 3, shooting 0-4 from 3-point range and lodging a -18 on the +/- scale.  Scottie had a bad game, missed a game to injury, and then had a bad game.  Ouch.  But then again the Raptors have not been playing him at guard for a while in deference to Fred VanVleet… Then thrust him into that spot against Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton… That is a recipe for disaster.  He should bounce back against Detroit.

The Detroit Pistons are bad and not really trying to be good. They are on a 3-game losing streak… and have only won 3 games all season.  A shin injury to Cade Cunningham should send this team into a downward spiral… yet they are already at the bottom… so it would be a sideways spiral.  The Pistons should come out guns a-blazing since the Raptors will be their best chance at a win in a while with all the injuries.  They won’t though.  At 28th in scoring in the league their guns are never really blazing.  They lost their last game to the Boston Celtics 117 - 108.  The Pistons got 28 points from F Bojan Bogdanovic, 26 points from G Jaden Ivey… but as a team the Pistons simply could not get any stops. Celtics star Jayson Tatum scorched them for 43 points.  The Celtics were missing SG Jaylen Brown, C Al Horford, SG Malcolm Brogdon, C Robert Williams III.  Heck it was a very similarly depleted roster as the Raptors’ roster.

Toronto Raptors VS Detroit Pistons Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, November 14th is…. Raptors 112 - Pistons 99

Bet on the Raptors. The Pistons have shown an ability to get big games from one or two guys at a time… while getting nothing much else from everyone else.  It’s almost as if the Pistons are not trying to win?

Players To Watch

Raptors: PG Scottie Barnes.  Scottie will need a good game for the Pistons to get a win.  He has the ability.  Let’s see.

Pistons:  SF Bojan Bogdanovic.  Bojan has been a good scorer on multiple rosters, but when you are a below average defender… eventually you wind up being a good scorer for a bad team.

Coaches

Raptors: Nick “remember me and my hat?” Nurse
Pistons: Dwayne “The Raptors were better when I coached them” Casey
