A Western Conference battle of struggling teams.  The San Antonio Spurs have a long proud history of winning.  5 titles in 18 years at the same time Kobe and Shaq were in the same conference! That is some winning.  Hall of Fame coach!  Multiple hall of fame names like Dunhcan, Ginobili, Parker.  That all came to an end a few seasons ago when Kawhi Leonard forced his way out of San Antonio and wound up on a Championship winning Raptors team.  The Spurs have been simultaneously thinking too old and playing too young!  The Spurs are currently in the chase for the #1 pick this coming draft along with 10 other teams.. The prize will be significant… but the interim will be lousy to watch.  The Los Angeles Clippers eventually landed Kawhi Leonard the year after that Raptors Championship… It was a curse.  Call it the curse of Texas… but Kawhi has not been healthy or productive since… sure he has had some good games here and there… but mostly he has been in street clothes or on training tables.  The Clippers gave up a boatload of young talent and picks to get SG Paul George to pair with Kawhi… but Paul is really the only star this team has.  The signature of the rest of the Clippers squad is rough and tumble role players who can win games on their own.  They will need to.. Because Kawhi’s last game came with 6 points and costs a whopping 45 million dollars a year!  The Clippers will have to work around Kawhi for the rest of his contract… and then maybe… just maybe they can have success.  As far as starting the season as Vegas’s favorite Title contenders… the world will have to mute those ideas for now.

The San Antonio Spurs are a mix of super young guys and draft picks on the shelf… and since draft picks don’t play NOW… they simply are not good. The Spurs are on a 3-game losing streak… all of which were against Western Conference teams!  Ouch!  They lost their last game to the Sacramento Kings OUCH! 130 -112 OUCH! In that game Devin Vassell had 29 points but a -14 on the +/- scale.  He was helped along by 16 points from Kenneth Bates Diop, and 15 points from Tre Jones… who each also had negative numbers on the plus/minus scale. They also stood by as Kings’ guards De’Aaron Fox had 26 points and Malik Monk had 25 points.  The Spurs were dominated all game long… a repetitive phrase over the last 3 games… and most of the season.

The Los Angeles Clippers won their last game over the Detroit Pistons but it took some effort… and the Pistons are horrible.  The Pistons had the lead all throughout the first half and part of the 3rd quarter before the Clippers started to make it competitive.  The Clippers would go on to win behind 23 points from Reggie Jackson and 16 each out of Paul George and Marcus Morris SR… The most impactful points coming from Paul George during the “comeback” phase of the 3rd quarter.  Clippers Center Ivica Zubac is sneakily one of the most effective centers in the league he had 9 points, 18 rebounds, 1 assist.  Ivica will never be Nikola Jokic… but he is an Ace the hole.

NBA Betting Trends

Players To Watch

Spurs: Guard Devini Vassell.  When the Spurs traded their best player SG Dejounte Murray to the Hawks in the offseason… it was a move to get Worse in the now and improve the future draft picks. That leaves the team in Devin Vassell’s hands.  Devin plays well some nights and is invisible some nights.

Clippers: Center Ivica Zubac.  Ivica does the job of center very well.  He had 18 rebounds last game… Can he go for 19?... He will never score 50 points in an NBA game… but also the position in today’s NBA is all about rebounding and kicking to shooters which he can do everyday and twice on Sunday.
