The Western Conference is WIDE OPEN!... not really but mathematically sure.  The season is only a few days old.  Most teams have simply not played more than one game. The numbers and stats will wildly swing over the next week… heck even the next month.  And then everything will settle down into a nice groove until we know who the surprises are and who the grinders are.  However… We do have expectations.  We even have outright roster to roster comparisons.  In this game… One roster is great.. The other roster is potentially bad on purpose.  The Phoenix Suns have all the great expectations a team can come with.  They were big regular season winners last year and they want a Championship SOON.. if not NOW!... The trouble with the Suns is they are going through a dismal ownership change because Robert Sarver is a ____.  The Portland Trail Blazers are undefeated but did terrible last year and have a worse roster this year.  The Blazers are fully embroiled in the group of teams that will want to tank to get the #1 pick in next year’s draft  which will be transformative OR the #2 pick which will be GREAT… we have no idea who the #3 pick will be but I’m guessing good.. Since neither of the top two picks will come from American College basketball.

 

The Phoenix Suns won their first game over the Dallas Mavericks 107 - 105… That is right… They failed to cover the spread.  The shame they must feel!  SG Deviin Booker is again a great pice for the Suns to have as he logged 28 points and 9 assists.  SF Mikal Bridges had 11 rebounds, and PG Chris Paul had a weird statline of only 6 points but 9 assists.  The Suns have a great squad with l;ots of depth… the hill to climb doesn’t matter unless it ends at the summit.

 

The Portland Trail Blazers were terrible last season while PG Damian Lilliard was out with an abdominal injury.  In the meantime they traded away CJ McCollum and watched him become the star he was meant to be in New Orleans.  The Trail Blazers roster is made up of pie in the sky hopes and current hot garbage. Damian Lilliard is a great basketball player but living the life of a guy who stayed with bad management for much too long.  His trade request was due 4 seasons ago.  He can be mollified with a $50 million dollar salary… but the team shouldn’t expect good results. In the debut game Lilliard had 20 points and 8 assists.. Jerami Grant had 23 points and Anfernee Simons had 22 points.  The Blazers got the win!... over the awful Sacramento Kings.  There will be lots of losses coming and coming soon.

Blazers: SG Anfernee Simons.  This kid was thought of as a sponge for stats since he took over for CJ McCollum… but if he keeps up the scoring.. He may actually be a top-notch player.. And not just a Jersey in a vacuum.
