An NBA inter-conference matchup between an Eastern Conference team that is underperforming and a Western Conference team that is basically the same as last season.  Both these clubs made deep playoff runs last year after having great seasons… This season feels a bit harder for both.  The Phoenix Suns are 8-4 after 12 games played… They are always 1st in AST/TO ratio thanks to the steady hand of veteran star PG Chris Paul. The rest of the offensive numbers are not as good as last season.  Chris Paul suffered a heel injury and has missed the last two games… It remains to be seen if he will suit up in Miami.  At Chris’s advanced age any injury will give the team enough pause to rest him until he is back to 100%.  The Miami Heat have a losing record after 13 games played.  If the losing continues they may be a candidate for a rebuild.  They could trade Butler or Adebayo to plenty of interested contenders… take their lumps and see if they win the Draft Lottery… But that just is not the Miami way.  Miami has always been able to attract free agents because of the weather and culture… tanking could sour that.  Plus they were in the Eastern Conference Finals last season!  This season is young… They could be in first place by Game 30 easily… It just takes winning. As always SF Jimmy Butler leads the Heat in points (22.1), assists (6.1), and steals (1.9).  He should be getting lots more help from SG Tyler Herro and C Bam Adebayo… and maybe a trade is the actual thing that might help?

The Phoenix Suns lost their last game to the Orlando Magic (gulp!) 114 - 97.  SG Devin Booker was wildly ineffective with only 17 points and a staggering -27 on the +/- scale.  Devin had a real bad night.  Chris Paul did not play.  Center Deandre Ayton had 14 points and -23 on the +/- scale, an even WORSE game than Devin Booker!  PG Cameron Payne turned out to lead the Suns in scoring with 22 points… I like Cameron… He is a quality back-up point guard who seems to put team first and play well on defense… YET if Cameron leads the Suns in scoring in any game… you have my word that game was a Suns loss.  The team has lost 2 of their last 3 games… yet still hold 4th place in the West and a winning record.

The Miami Heat are on a two-game winning streak… but that followed a two-game losing streak… that had a 2-game winning streak before that… which was preceded by a two game losing streak.  Are you beginning to see a pattern?  The Heat are failing to achieve lift-off on the season.  They have quite literally been running in circles for the last MONTH. Win-win-lose-lose-win-win-lose-lose-win-lose.  It has been hard to predict.  However it has not been hard to bet on.  With all those wins and losses… The Heat did consistently lose ATS.  The Heat are 3-7 ATS over the last ten games.  Betting against the Heat HAS BEEN PAYING.  The Heat won their last game over the Charlotte Hornets 132-115… They covered an -8.5 point spread. SG Max Strus had 31 points, C Bam Adebayo had 24 points, 15 rebounds… and Butler and Vincent had 20 points a piece. As always bench player SG Duncan Robinson was the worst Heat player on the floor. Duncan shot 0 of 6 from 3 point range and chewed up 23 minutes with only 5 points and lots of bad defense to show for it.

Phoenix Suns VS Miami Heat Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, November 14th is…. Heat 114 - Suns 113

The Heat are at home while it is uncertain whether Chris Paul will suit up for the Suns. Still bet on the Suns.  The Spread says.  Plus SG Devin Booker has rarely ever had a multi-game shooting slump.

Players To Watch

Suns: SF Mikal Bridges.  Legit 2-way player.  Mikal does a little bit of everything for the Suns.  He is fun to watch if you like quality basketball.

Heat: SG Duncan Robinson.  Duncan is not the scorer he has been billed as.  He is also not much of a defender.  He will have to find another gear if he wants to stay in the league beyond this overpriced deal.

Coaches

Suns: Monty “holding it all together” Williams
Heat: Erik “done it all” Spoelstra
