A Western Conference matchup… again between two very surprising teams!  The surprises keep coming this NBA season asd the Nets, 76ers, Lakers, and Clippers keep losing!  And as the Jazz, Trail Blazers, and the Cavaliers keep winning.  It’s an odd season, but we get those every now and then when the unstoppable players age out or flame out… while the young players start asserting their dominance.  Let’s look at this closely.  The Los Angeles Lakers keep losing and keep piling up Draft Lottery ping pong balls… for the New Orleans Pelicans.  That’s right, the Lakers trade for Anthony Davis got them the bubble championship… but it has been biting them in the butt ever since.  The Lakers troubles are vast… They traded everyone of any NBA ability to get three all-stars… none of whom are shooters and all of whom are aging rapidly… the result is they have no actual team to surround those all-stars and no draft picks left to trade.  3 all-stars surrounded by undrafted free agents and NBA nobodies.  The team will start Kendrick Nunn at PG… Kendrick is 4 years removed from his best season in the NBA… and the returns will only get worse since he was a G-League call-up to begin with.   The Lakers have the league’s best player of the last two decades in PF LeBron James… but approaching a rocking chair, LeBron needs the help of shooters to maximize his greatness… He has none… or Nunn.  The Utah Jazz are killing the game with a collection of nobodies that will someday be somebodies (and Mike Conley who has been fantastic since he played high school ball with Greg Oden).  The Jazz who were built for a rebuild… are rebuilt.  They have trough shooting guards and scrappy scoring forwards… They have even found a way to positively use Kelly Olynyk at Starting Center… something that hasn’t happened in 5 NBA seasons.  The key to the Jazz's early success is they have lots of good players… lots of good shooters and no expectations.

The Los Angeles Lakers looked like they were turning a corner when they got their second win of the season. A 120-117 overtime win over the New Orleans Pelicans… you know the team that wreaked all this havoc on the Lakers roster… by completely hoodwinking terrible Laker’s GM Rob Pelinka into including more picks & players than was reasonably responsible for the deal.  Since the Lakers have lost two straight games… to the Utah Jazz and the Cleveland Cavaliers (LeBron’s old team).  In their last game, Cleveland dominated the Lakers 114-100 while only shooting 24% from the 3-point line… it turns out rebounds and assists and a lack of turnovers will also count in the final score.  LeBron had 27-7-4… he did his part.  Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook each had 19 points… and the supporting cast once again gave them nothing.  Cavaliers guards Darius Garland, 24 pts, and Donovan Mitchell, 33 pts, ate the Lakers alive.  BTW Kevin Love is still a Cavalier and he was good for 10 pts and 10rbs in 20 minutes.  Love and his expiring contract will be a Cavalier trading chip soon.

The Utah Jazz last beat the Los Angeles Clippers 110-102.  They did what they do best… They got contributions from everybody! SF Lauri Markkanen 19 pts, 9 rbs.. PG Mike Conley 17 pts, 4 asts, SG Jordan Clarkson 23 pts, Combo guard Collin Sexton 22 pts in 27 minutes… add 10 points form PF Malik Beasley and you get 5 players that share the ball and the glory. Rookie Center Walker Kessler nabbed 4 pts, 5 rbs, and 2 Blocked Shots in 16 minutes.. Walker will be the starter by the end of the season.  How does that match up with the Lakers?... They are well-rounded… where you are weak they can hit you hard. The Lakers are weak at 3 spots on the floor at any given time.  The Jazz have so far hidden the few weaknesses they have by playing team ball.

Los Angeles Lakers VS Utah Jazz Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, November 7th is….  Jazz 110 - Lakers 101

Bet on the Jazz.  If the Jazz get this win coupled with a Suns loss they will do something no Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert team ever did… They will be in first place in the Western Conference by a 2 game lead.  That sort of reality would hasten the promotion of Collin Sexton to starter and a trade of Mike Conley for another big man.  The result would be a team that could hang on to contention enough for a fun playoff run.  Since the Jazz have extra picks on the books the season would be an overwhelming success with reclamation players!  This could be the start of many sunny days ahead.

NBA Betting Trends

The Lakers are 1-5 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5 points this season.
The Lakers are 1-5 ATS after failing to cover the spread this season.
Utah is 6-0 when the total is 220 to 229.5 points this season.
Utah is 5-1 ATS off an upset win as the underdog this season.

Players To Watch

Lakers: C Anthony Davis.  Is his back still hurting? 19 points in the last game? 22.5 and 11 on the season is OK for a low end all-star, but this Lakers formula only works if AD can take the lead role over LeBron… He is not close.

Jazz:  Combo Guard Collin Sexton,  Huge games off of the bench!  Recovering from the rust of missing a full season from knee surgery.  His averages will rise to 20 ppg… will his contributions come with assists… If they do?... He will soon be the starting point guard.

Coaches

Lakers: Darvin “I thought this would be better” Ham
Jazz: Will “best thing since sliced bread… take that Quin Snyder” Hardy
