Thunder: PG Shau Gilgeous Alexander, SG Josh Giddey, SF Luguentz Dort, PF Aleksej Pokusevski, C Jeremiah Robinson-Earl

A Western Conference matchup between Vegas’s favorite for the Finals.. And the Draft’s favorite for #1 pick Victor Wembanyama.  It’s that simple.  One team is loaded and trying to find their feet… while the other is unloaded and trying to find their way to the bottom.  There is little intrigue here except the point spread.  If the point spread is HUGE it may get covered simply from apathy on the inning side.  Let’s look at the numbers and make a reasonable bet.

The Los Angeles Clippers spent last season with SG Kahwi Leonard on the injured list… he was joined by SF/PF Paul George… who was also joined by SG/SF Norman Powell… all 20 point per game scorers… all injured… all waiting for next season.  This is next season.  You would think that with the Clippers missing SOOOO many pieces they must have been awful?... No.  They are the deepest squad you can imagine without seeing them all play together.  C Ivica Zubac is quietly the worst trade the Lakers have made in the last four seasons.  He can man the position and was gotten for Mike Muscala… who may still be in the league?... Or Europe?... Or not anywhere?... PF Marcus Morris is a quality player no doubt, PG Raggie Jackson is ready at all times… They added PG John Wall, a multi-time all-star that has sat for two seasons but still has plenty in the tank.   PF Nicholas Batum has been a revelation, bench player Terance Mann rocks the boat with his capable skill level at either the guard or forward positions… PF Robert Covington can play… So without their big three last season they still could win games last season… Today they can win every game.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are in a weird position.  Last season they had some talent in the fold but were clearly playing with the lineup in order to tank for a great pick.  They got that great pick, #2, and landed 7’3 C Chet Holmgren… a multi-skilled Center that was huge and skinny.  So skinny that people kept saying “he would never hold up to NBA ball”.  He didn’t.  After a couple of great NBA Summer League games, he is now out for the season with knee problems that could have been foreseen by anyone with eyes.  Now they will be tanking again… even though they have PG Josh Giddey in fold… a guy that can get triple doubles in the NBA as a teenager!  If they get the #1 pick this season they will HAVE TO draft 7’4 french teenage Center Victor W… who is multi-talented and a little skinny.  If it works they will have two GIANTS with tons of talent and high injury risk.  But if it works they will have a twin tower of talent.  Do not expect this club to win much… but we do have to measure the potential against the inflated Spreads.

Los Angeles Clippers vs Oklahoma City Thunder Preview and Analysis

Offensive Analysis

The Clippers are 30th in scoring with 103 points per game, 12th in rebounds with 47 per game, and 29th in AST/TO ratio with 1.1.  They had a really bad loss to Phoenix which tanked their numbers, but with only 3 games played the scoring averages and the AST/TO ratio could jump in just a single game.

The Thunder are 19th in scoring with 110-3 points per game, 5th in rebounds with 48.7 per game, 6th in AST/TO ratio with 2.0.  They have good stats in 3 consecutive losses… These numbers will dip and be in the bottom of the league after the first 20 games of the season.

Los Angeles Clippers vs Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction

Our prediction for Tuesday, October 25th is…. Clippers 125 - Thunder 100

Yes, ignore the spread and simply bet the Clippers.  The Clippers have the firepower to destroy the Thunder and the Thunder brain trust want to get destroyed in the big matchups.

NBA Betting Trends

The Clippers are 186-118 as favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points over the last 3 seasons.

Players To Watch

Clippers: PF Paul George,  Paul George is a real deal Freeman McNeil star in this league. He can either be the #2 on this roster or he can lead them to wins. Every Clipper fan wants to see him lead the pack.

Thunder: SF Luguentz Dort. Dort plays hard on defense and pretty well on offense. He was undrafted, and although wonderfully effortful… he has been drawing a paycheck to help this team tank.  The guy is great for any undersized player that belongs on the bench but istead starts.  The repos will make him a savvy vet eventually.

Coaches

Clippers: Tye “Im Ready” Lue
Thunder: Mark “I’m gone by next season” Daigneault
