An NBA Western Conference battle that represents the beginning of leapfrog season.  The NBA season so far has been an odd mystery.  Teams that we thought had improved their roster or just held on to a good roster are not playing well… Teams we had thought would be falling headlong into the abyss in order to get Lottery position for the next draft have been playing wonderfully (Jazz, Trail Blazers).... But at the 20 game mark… It will all start changing (some of it already has).  The Golden State Warriors were last seasons Champs!  Now they are an 11th place team in the West after the first 20 games… but we have seen this movie before.  A great team needs to adjust every now and then and the Warriors are making a lot of adjustments.  The Warriors still have Steph, Klay, and Draymond… and they still have a youth movement waiting in the wings… Head Coach Steve Kerr must get them to play together and at a level as high as last season and they will immediately start moving up the standings.  This game in particular means a Golden State win would propel them above the Timberwolves in the standings… giving up 11th place for 10th place and possibly 9th place depending on the outcome of the Mavericks next game… and possibly 8th or even 7th place depending on the outcome of Clippers and Kings games… Of course the Minnesota Timberwolves were also thought to be very good on paper… They have young star SG Anthony Edwards… perennial great shooting big man Karl-Anthony Towns, and they added multiple time all-star C Rudy Gobert in a trade with the Utah Jazz in the offseason!  They should be VERY good.  But it is not yet working.  If it suddenly does?... They could leave the Warriors in the dust and make all those leaps up the standings themselves.  This game will be tense for all involved… and we still have 60 to 61 games left to play!

The Golden State Warriors are on a 2-game winning streak.  They beat the Utah Jazz in their last game, further exemplifying “Leap Frog Season”... The Jazz were in 1st place in the West as recently as last week, but have fallen to 6th place after a bumpy 3-game losing streak.  That is how quickly it could happen all over the league over the couple of weeks.  In their 129 - 119 win over the Jazz PG Stephen Curry had 33 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Steph is the star and he always seems to get buckets when needed… but the win comes from SF Andrew Wiggins adding 20 points, SG Klay Thompson adding 20 points, and super sub SG Jordan Poole adding 19 points.  This team was built to SCORE points… when they do at a high level they win.  The odd thing to worry about was yet another game by SF/PF Jonathan Kuminga that simply did not matter… He went “goose egg” in 13 minutes.  Young Center James Wiseman is still getting reps in the G-League.. The youth movement in Golden State is starting to look a heck of a lot more like a potential trade if the Warriors want to matter this season… but we still have plenty of this year left to see improvement.

The Minnesota Timberwolves lost their last game to the Charlotte Hornets 110-108 which was also a loss ATS.  The Timberwolves were favored by -6.5 in that game because nearly everyone is running the Hornets off the court this season. That is what is so troubling with the Timberwolves loaded roster.  Those are the performances, if it keeps up, that get Head Coaches and GMs fired.  The team went all in with a huge offseason trade and seems to have regressed.  The Timberwolves have been bad for lots of years… the corner was thought to have been turned… and yet they keep losing?  In the loss to the Hornets, T-Wolves SG Anthony Edwards got 25 points but shot 3-10 from the arc.  PF Karl Anthony Towns got 19 points but shot 1-11 from the arc.  PG D’Angelo Russel got 20 points while shooting 4-10 from the arc… 4 of 10 is OK… the other two lines are bad… if you combine those three guys you get a lot of missed shots.  Missed shots lose games…, It also very seriously negates a roster that has TWIN TOWERS on the floor.  Any team that has two skilled seven footers side by side should be pounding the paint!  But they just don’t.  The growing feeling is that D’Angelo Russel AND Karl-Anthony Towns SHOULD be shipped out together or separately as part of a Giant multiple team trade that would bring back players and picks.  The Wolves have not mattered for a full decade if not longer, until last season when they made a playoff appearance… if they miss the playoffs this year?... The pieces they have to trade won’t be worth as much as if they did it now.

Golden State Warriors VS Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, November 27th is…. Warriors 122 - T-Wolves 115

The T-Wolves definitely have the advantage in the big man game… but when it comes to making baskets without getting in each other's way the Warriors have the advantage.  Often the home team gets the nod… but I think the Warriors have turned the corner… and will finally win on the road and ATS on the road.  Bet on the Warriors.

All 7 of games between these teams have gone OVER the last 3 seasons.
The T-Wolves are 3-0 ATS versus Golden State at Minnesota the last 3 seasons.

Players To Watch

Warriors: PF Jonathan Kuminga.   Jonathan is a bench player… He was supposed to challenge both Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins for minutes in order to solidify this team’s future.  He is not even close based on early results.  The athleticism that got us all so hot and bothered about a potential rebirth of Golden State’s dynasty is simply not translating into anything but pure regression.  Watch him closely.  He is (along with C James Wiseman) contributing nothing.

Timberwolves: PF Karl Anthony Towns. For a couple of seasons this sweet shooting big man was clogging the paint and demanding the ball, essentially cutting off the hyper athletic Anthony Edwards from driving to the hoop… Now, with the addition of C Rudy Gobert, KAT is clogging the 3-point line… essentially clogging that space from Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell.  KAT is like oil and water with the rest of this roster… would he be better somewhere else? Or is his game missing something important?

Coaches

Warriors: Steve “all the rings” Kerr

T-Wolves: Chris “I’m new” Finch
