An NBAEastern Conference battle between old foes hell bent on taking each other down.  Only problem is that one of the old foes have no intention of winning games this season… and the other home foe doesn’t have a lot of ability to win games this season.  The Detroit Pistons are in full tank mode… That is the absolute truth.  PG Cade Cunningham is out with injury and the team is starting Sacramento draft Bust PF Marvin Bagley III at Center.  They do not intend to win any games.  The players will try but the roster and the rotation has been designed for losing basketball.  The chestnut of 7’4 Victor Wembenyama as the soon to be #1 NBA draft pick is too great.  Detroit has been bad for so long… they simply can not resist!  So what is wrong with being bad for a little longer… well the draft lottery is not guaranteed and few teams ever have actually improved long term after deliberately tanking.  The Miami Heat have an aging star with an incomplete roster around him… last season they managed to be Eastern Conference contenders… but it is not yet working this year.  SF Jimmy Butler is basketball royalty that is a lock for quality every time he takes the court with health… He is a two-way star… good on offense, Great on defense. His teammates have either one or the other… up and down the roster.  In fact SG/SF Duinacan Robinson is a good scorer who cannot be on the court because he will give up more points than he scores.. And he takes up a huge part of the salary cap! PG Kyle Lowry was a stud in Toronto but is a shot fighter in Miami… C Bam Adebayo has a better sounding name than any game he currently brings to the court.  However Miami is better and probably the Great Betting Opportunity in this matchup.

The Detroit Pistons lost their last game to the Memphis Grizzlies and they are losers of 4 of their last five games.  That loss was 122-112 which was also a loss ATS.  The spread is important to watch with tanking teams because Detroit is 15-9-1 ATS… that means that since they are terrible… Vegas will set big point spreads and they will lose but cover more times than not.  Remember that the point spread is meant to cover the house and entice betting at the same time… and since every team has professional players, big spreads get covered often if the house believes the money is going the other way.  In fact the Pistons have won 3 of their last 10 games… but won ATS 6-3-1. In the loss SF Saddiq Bey scored 24 points with 6 rebounds and 7 assists… he should be on the trading block soon and the Indiana Pacers should want him very much.. Will that happen?... Probably not.. But it is a great fit for Hield and a future pick.

The Miami Heat won their last game against the Boston Celtics 120-116 in overtime.  It is the Heat’s best win of the season and they get to be the rare team that can say they beat the Celtics this season so far. In the win SF Jimmy Butler had 25 points, C Bam Adebayo had 28 points, SG Tyler Herro had 26 points and PG Kule Lowry had 20 points… That is exactly how it should work if the Heat are to win games… everyone in and everyone playing at a high level… and still it was close.  The Heat have tons of talent… it just isn’t always the best or youngest or most capable talent on the floor… against Detroit it is better talent at every position.

Detroit Pistons VS Miami Heat  Prediction

Our prediction for Tuesday, December 6th is….  Heat 123 - Pistons 111

Bet on the Heat.  The Heat are better 1-5 on the floor especially with Cade Cunninghame out for the Pistons… but they are also more veteran and ready coming off the bench.  Bet on the Heat.  You could also bet on the Over since combined these teams are 28-19-1 O/U meaning they often get into track meets with no defense.

Players To Watch

Pistons: C Marvin Bagley III.  This guy could be good if he got out of his own head. Yeah he bombed in his first stop which will always sting since he was drafted 1 spot ahead of Mavericks star (and possible league MVp) Luka Doncic. Marvin will have to find his way to the gym and film room… and then put forth his best foot every night to recover from a start as bad as his.

Heat: SF Caleb Martin. Back-up alert!  Caleb is ultra athletic, just not appropriately skilled.  He needs to get skilled and start playing like a real athletic freak.

Coaches

Pistons: Dwayne “as long as I get tomorrow” Casey
Heat Erik “ too much success for it to all be over” Spolestra
