NBA: Brooklyn Nets vs Milwaukee Bucks Pick and Predictions 10/26/2022

An Eastern Conference matchup between expected Eastern Conference playoff rivals… and while the Bucks look the part so far… the Nets look like the same tire fire as last season… only someone has dumped some kerosene around the edges.  The Bucks have not played a lot on the NBA calendar yet… but when they have they have handled their business.  The Nets keep losing… and the losing is awful to watch.  The Nets have some of the strongest offensive players in the entire NBA… but they are DEAD Last in defense.  Ben Simmons, the offensively challenged head case, was supposed to be a defensive player… so far that is not the case.  The guy keeps fouling out or running the risk of fouling out.  His head is still not in it… and (insiders tell me) Kevin Durant’s trade request is about to resurface in a very big and public way.

The Brooklyn Nets were last on the losing end of a true barn burner!  A 134 - 124 loss to the Memphis grizzlies.  Grizzlies guards Ja Morant and Desmond Bane torched the Nest soft defense further announcing PG Ja Morant as a true MVP candidate… and the Grizzlies have not had PF Jaren Jackson Jr or SF Zaire Williams in any game yet!  The Nets have lost to the Grizzlies and the Hornets… In both cases giving up 130+ points.  A big part of the Nets  problem is they are losing the rebound battle night in and night out.  That’s an unthinkable outcome with Ben Simmons and Nic Claxton on the floor… but that is what they are doing.  SF Kevin Durant is his usual self averaging 32 points a game… to a guy like Kevin the points ring hollow if his teammates keep dropping the ball. PG Kyrie Irving is putting up 27 points game yet shooting a low 28% from 3 and a low 46% from the field.  

The Milwaukee Bucks have had a lot of rest in the first ten days and are about to get pounded by multiple back to backs. The Bucks are of course still led by PF Giannis Antetokounmpo who is logging a team leading 32.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Pg Jrue Holiday is getting 9 assists a game with quality defense played… while Brook Lopez is hammering the paint with 3.5 blocks per game. The Bucks worry is the injury list where Khris Middleton, Pat Connaughton, and Joe Ingles all are firmly planted for now.  It’s up to guys like Bobby Portis, Wesley Matthews, and George Hill to score off the bench.

The Nets are 16th in scoring with 113.7 per game, 29th in rebounds with 39.3 per game, 11th in AST/TO ratio with 1.9.   Offense isn’t the problem… Being so clearly the worst defensive team IS THE PROBLEM.  The one bright spot is they are 1st in blocked shots… but that isn’t helping them win.

The Bucks are 24th in scoring with 107.5 points per game, 7th in rebounds with 47.5 per game, 17th in AST/To ratio with 1.8 per game.  The Bucks have a small sample but are FIRST in defense. 

Our prediction for Wednesday, October 26th is…. Bucks 130 - Nets 119

The Nets need to improve their team rebounding before they expect to beat anybody among the good teams.  They won’t have a single game turnaround in that column against the fantastic rebounding Bucks!  Look for the Nets cookie to continue to crumble.
