An Eastern Conference matchup of this season’s best Eastern Conference starting team… and a slow starter with a good roster.  The Celtics are out to prove that the sudden and awful coaching problem will not affect them.  The Bulls are starting this season how they ended last season.. By hoping to get players back from the injury list and trying to hold it together without them.  Still the season is young and anything can happen.  Let’s check the numbers and the spread and make a solid prediction to increase our bankrolls.

The Boston Celtics have won their first 3 games… and they looked great doing it. They took down the Miami Heat 11-104, the Orlando Magic 126-120, and the Philadelphia 76ers 126-117.  They are 3-0 on the season and 2-1 ATS. (The Magic will be a good bet ATS because they will always be playing against an inflated spread since they are tanking). SF Jayson Tatum is on a mission to make up for the scoring drought he suffered in last season’s finals.  He is currently averaging (just 3 games) 34.7 points per game.  PG Marcus Smart is banking 6 assists per game and playing great defense.  While Jaylen Brown is showing all-around game as usual. New Head Coach or Interim Head Coach (not yet clear) Joe Mazzula has had the pleasure of starting an NBA head coaching career with 3 straight wins… and I hear he is old enough to rent a car.

The Chicago Bulls were last season's fun team.  They had a reworked roster and were finally winning games.  Last season SF DeMar DeRozan showed he still had all the mid-range skills to be in the MVP discussion as a dark horse.  This season he is again looking good with a 27.3 point average and 5.3 assists to lead the team in both categories… Though there is a feeling that if the team can’t get all healthy at some point… They will miss DeMar’s moment in the sun.  The important guy they are missing is PG Lonzo Ball.  It seems like a couple of teams have been left waiting for Lonzo Ball. Yes, the Bulls still have Alex Caruso and Goran Dragic on the roster… but for some reason the starter is still a 2nd round pick of two years ago… Ayo Dosunmu. Lonzo isn’t due back until Late December.  PF Patrick Williams was out last season and this year does not look like any type of savior?  He has 3 game stat lines of 6pts-3rbs, 7pts-1rbs, 4pts-2rbs…. Good thing C Nikola Vucevic looks great to start the year… If Patrick Williams can’t turn things around he may find the bench… and then he may find the trade deadline.

Boston Celtics vs Chicago Bulls Preview and Analysis

Offensive Analysis

The Boston Celtics are 5th in scoring with 121 points per game, 29th in rebounds with 38.7 per game, 15th in AST/TO ratio with 1.7, and 2nd in FG% with 52%.  Low rebounding numbers are natural if you are hitting shots… it simply means less rebounds to go after.

The Chicago Bulls are 28th in scoring with 104 points per game, 27th in rebounds with 39.7 per game, 20th in AST/TO ratio with 1.6, and 16th in blocks with 5 per game.  The worst part of their game is defense… but with LaVine and Williams in the starting lineup they have some big holes.

Boston Celtics vs Chicago Bulls Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, October 24th is…. Celtics 125 - Bulls 100

Yes, the Celtics will have yet another blowout win early in the season.  The simple fact is the Celtics offense will have a field day on one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA.  Plus Marcus Smart will shine against Ayo Dosunmu… he’s bigger, tougher and more skilled. And whenever the Celtics play win the matchup at PG they will have big wins because Tatum and Brown will be winning their matchup as well.

NBA Betting Trends

The Bulls are 1-9 ATS off a home blowout loss of 20 points or more the last 3 seasons.
The Bulls are 1-7 ATS off a home loss against a divisional rival the last 3 seasons.

Players To Watch

Celtics: PG Marcus Smart.  A day like this is tailor made for Marcus to shine.  He is a defense first type of guy… but he can go off offensively against a D this bad.

Bulls: PF Patrick Williams… another bad game and Patrick will need some more time on the bench and in the lab.  Patrick is athletically gifted but will have to learn NBA skills and speed to make that work.

Coaches

Celtics: Joe “the kid” Mazzula
Bulls: Billy “I’m Still Here!” Donovan
