An Eastern Conference matchup with a stunning question… Why are the Raptors 10 points favorites when they are in 9th place and have only won 3 more games this season than the Wizards?  Sure, the Raptors are the home team… but is that worth a 10 point spread?  The Washington Wizards have done what they always seem to do… largely disappoint their fans.  That is all they seem to do year after year.  They also seem to have shut everything down at the moment in order to embrace the coming NBA Draft Lottery.  Their injury list will be stacked with 3 starters missing this game:  PG Monte Morris, SG Bradley Beal, SF Kyle Kuzma.  The Toronto Raptors have been a much bigger disappointment than the Wizards this year… because their individual talent is so much better.  Yet as a TEAM the Raptors can not seem to get anything done.  A big part of the Raptors problem is of course they waited most of the year to get a true Center… and played PF Pascal Siakam out of position as a result.  They also have not yet made the move to put 2nd year player Scottie Barnes at point guard, his best position… instead they have played him at both PF and SF depending on their current need.  The result is a completely off balanced roster of talented players.  The great betting opportunity here is in deciding if the Wizards are capable of covering a 10 point spread while missing 3 starters at the skill positions?

The Washington Wizards have won only 3 of their last 10 games… and those wins were over last place squads Detroit (twice) and San Antonio.  They went only 3-7 ATS during that stretch.  They won their last game over the San Antonio Spurs 136-124. In that win they got 26 points from SG Corey Kispert… 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists from SF Deni Avdija, and 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists from PF Kristaps Porzingis.  They were playing the Spurs remember and the results are not typical.

The Toronto Raptors have won 5 of their last 10 games. They went 7-3 ATS during that stretch.  They won their last game against the atrocious Detroit Pistons 118-97 (covering a -13.5 spread in the process).  In the win they got 32 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists from all-star PF Pascal Siakam, 18 points from PG Fred Van Vleet, and 19 points & 13 rebounds from bench PF Chris Boucher in 29 minutes.  Scottie Barnes did not play.  It’s hard to determine if any team had a really good game against the Pistons at this moment in time… but still a win is a win.

Washington Wizards VS Toronto Raptors Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, March 26th is…. Raptors 120 - Wizards 100

Bet on the Raptors to cover. The Wizards are missing so many key guys while the Raptors are mostly healthy.  The disparity will be apparent from the opening tip.  These two squads played each other ten games ago… and the result was a 109-106 overtime win for the Raptors… BUT that Wizards squad had Kuzma and Beal chipping in a combined 37 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds… That is a lot of production to take off the table in a rematch. Plus in that Raptors win both Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby had bad games… well below their season averages.  That won’t happen again.

NBA Betting Trends

The Wizards are 4-12 ATS after playing 2 consecutive home games this season.
The Raptors are 8-5 ATS as a home favorite of 6.5 to 12 points this season.

Players To Watch

Wizards: PF Kristaps Porzingis.  One of the biggest mysteries in the NBA is:  IS Porzingis still good?.... This is the guy who was drafted by the NY Knicks and showered by boos as he took the stage for his handshake.  He then quickly won over New York as he earned the nickname “The Unicorn” because he did everything on a basketball court.  He scored, he rebounded, he had court vision, he blocked shots… Everything… Then he was moved to Dalas and then he was moved to Washington.  What do all three of those stops have in common?... The teams Kristaps has been on never really win anything.  Is he still good?

Raptors: PF Pascal Siakam.  Pascal is the Raptors best player at the moment.  There was some scuttlebut about other teams being able to trade for him at the trade deadline but nothing came to fruition.  Pascal can have very big nights and now that he is back in his natural position of PF he should be even more effective.  Yet if the Raptors do not make the playoffs (they are right on the edge)... He should still be a trade candidate… He would be amazing in Indiana or Utah or OKC… and all those teams have an excess of future draft picks to sweeten the pot.

COACH

Wizards: Wes “where is my resume” Unseld Jr
Raptors: Nick “remember my hat” Nurse
