A Western Conference carnival of “Welcome Back!”.  The Minnesota Timberwolevs sure have not lived up to their promise of a top roster and squad this season.  The trade for Rudy Gobert is looking like a big win for the Utah Jazz since the Jazz have already replaced Rudy’ rebounds and blocked shots with rookie Center Walker Kessler and they still have 5 Timberwolevs future draft picks in their war chest… BUT Rudy was not brought in to be the best Center… he was brought in so Center Karl-Anthony Towns, the best shooting big man in the NBA.. could move over to Power Forward.  The problem all season was that KAT was out with injury.  He is back now though.  The Phoenix Suns shifted into Finals Contenders before a sour season of their own injury absences could bring them down.  They traded for SF Kevin Durant at the trade deadline. Kevin is still the league’s best pure scorer.  He is still a superstar. AND he is ready and hungry for another ring.  But after the Suns waited for a few games because of injury for Kevin to debut with the team… He quickly won 3 straight games while averaging 30 points a game… Then he got hurt again.  He has missed the last 10 games and three weeks.  Finally tonight he gets his actual Sun’s debut on their home court… and just in time to play the last 7 games as a tune up for the postseason.  The great betting opportunity here is simply: Who has the better roster?  And is it worth 5 points on the spread?

The Minnesota Timberwolves have won 5 of their last 10 games.. BUT are on an impressive 4 game winning streak.  They went 5-5 ATS during that stretch.  They won their last game against the Sacramento Kings (who have a better record than the Suns) 119-115.  They were on the road in that game too.  In the win the Wolves had 7 players score in double figures with PF Jaden McDaniels leading the way with 20 points.  KAT did not play out of precaution. For this game jaden will move over to SF while Kat will play PF.  In the win C Rudy Gobert had a perfect (For Rudy) statline of 16 points & 16 rebounds with 2 blocks and 4 assists.

The Phoenix Suns have won only 4 of their last 10 games.  Going 3-7 ATS during that stretch.  They won their last game over the Utah Jazz 117-103. In the win they got 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists from SG Devin Booker.  They also got 14 points & 8 rebounds from C DeAndre Ayton in his first game back from injury. PG Chris Paul had 9 points & 10 assists.  The thinking is that these stats are perfect if only Kevin Durant can stay on the floor and land 30 points a game… and probably they are.

Bet on the Wolves to cover that 5 point spread.  The Suns will be fine… but we shouldn’t forget that without Kevin they lost 7 of 10 games, even some to losing teams. Let’s not forget that CP3, Booker, and Ayton have only ever played 3 games with Kevin Durant.  Expect a close one.. And expect the Wolves (who just outright beat the Kings) to have a chance at winning too.

T-Wolves: F Karl-Anthony Towns.  KAT is a great shooter. For a lot of years the Wolves were hoping he would be a great big man… but he is more of a giant wing player. The solution is here.  KAT should see playing alongside Rudy Gobert as setting him free.  Someone else will do the dirty work and KAT can finally take advantage of his size while playing a shooter’s game.

Suns: SF Kevin Durant.  The Suns were suffering big time while Kevin was absent… but also because they gave up Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson for Kevin (plus picks).  Still with Kevin the Suns are a complete team that can simply  dominate the West.  The thig to watch for is if Kevin is ready to return and play a FULL game.  He may need some cardio and shooter’s rust to be dealt with.
