A Western Conference mismatch of comic injury timing.  The Dallas Mavericks will be a playoff team this season.  They have fallen to 9th place in the standings… Luka Doncic is on the injury list and Kyrie Irving is simply not working out in the win column.. However when the Mavs duo is threatened by a “Play in game,, they will win”.  The team is probably feeling stupid knowing that SF Dorian Finney-Smith, whom they put in the trade to acquire Irving… is the missing piece that has caused their defense to tank.  The San Antonio Spurs are a terrible team.. They are so bad that while they are missing 3 starters for this contest?… They are actually no worse off than if they were completely healthy.  The Spurs are hoping for a draft lottery win.. Not actual wins. Once they get their hands on Victor Wembanyama, or Scoot Henderson, or Brandon Miller… they will look into actually improving the team.  The great betting opportunity here will be found in whether or not you believe the shell of the former Mavericks can cover the spread against the shell of the former Spurs.  

The Dallas Mavericks have won 3 of their last 10 games.  They are disgraced by the trade for Kyrie and beginning to realize it… They are also beginning to realize that very soon Kyrie will want a MAX contract extension AFTER destroying their team.  HUH?... They lost their last game to the Memphis Grizzlies, who will be finishing the season without PG Ja Morant, 104-88.  The Mavs managed only 988 points in a game against the Grizzlies.  In the loss the Mavs got zero minutes out of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic as they are both sidelined with injury.  They also got very little from the backups and bench.  Guards Hardy and Green got 28 points and 23 points respectively…but no one else got much of anything else.

The San Antonio Spurs have won 4 of their last 10 games.  Which may stand as the best 10 game stretch for the Spurs all season.  In true tanking form the Spurs immediately put 3 starters on the injury list.. To avoid further complications.  They won their last game against another truly awful team the Orlando Magic 132-114. In the win the Spurs got 25 points from C Zach Collins and 29 points & 11 rebounds from PF Jeremy Sochan.. As those guys led the way for 6 Spurs to score in double figures…. 3 of whom are now OUT with mysterious injuries.

Mavericks: PG Frank Ntilikina.  Frank was taken by the New York Knicks fairly high in a draft several years back. People often laugh at the Knicks fans for booing Knicks draft picks… but they should… the booing fans have been right way more often than the chuckling Knicks brass. Watch as Frank plays like a guy who should have never made the league in the first place.

Spurs: PF Jeremy Sochan.  Jeremy is an odd duck.  He seems like a high quality young player… BUT is that because the Spurs have no other options and Jeremy gets too many minutes?... OR is it because Jeremy is a rising PF in their league. It is seriously hard to tell.

Mavericks: Jason “Supervillian” Kidd

Spurs: Greg “I’ve seen better days” Poppovich
