Predators - Canucks preview, prediction and analysis
The Nashville Predators will head to Rogers Arena to take on the Vancouver Canucks in the battle of ultimate sellers trying to sell ice to an eskimo and not getting anywhere in the process because we have to watch these teams.
But maybe it’s not an entire loss for the Preds, who have won two straight in Florida and Chicago and have won five of six overall. There’s still some serious ground to make up for a playoff spot, but at least they’re finding ways to win against the teams they should beat. It wasn’t that long ago that Nashville beat Vancouver, but the Blackhawks game is more important.
Newcomer Tyson Barrie scored his first goal with his new team after the blockbuster Mattias Ekholm trade.
"It's always emotional switching teams and all that comes with it, but guys have been great in here and I'm having a lot of fun so far," Barrie said. "It's nice to get the first out of the way. You don't want to sit on a bagel with a new team for too long. I appreciate the good bounce there."
I would like to not watch the Canucks anymore. If there was a team set for relegation, it would be this team. Sure, they somehow won 4-1 over the Toronto Maple Leafs over the weekend and sent everyone in BC into mass hysteria, but such is the way of life when it pertains to this team needing to win everything after not trading anyone.
Vancoouver got two shorthanded goals from Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, because of course they did. They came 44 seconds apart, which also of course they did. But can we point out that they actually just beat the Maple Leafs? Which is embarrassing for Toronto of the highest order.
"It felt great," Pettersson said. "Obviously, we talk about killing their play first, but we are happy we got two quick goals there on the PK."
Both teams will be looking to get off to a fast start in this game, as the first goal could be crucial in setting the tone for the rest of the game. The Predators will be looking to use their physicality and defensive strength to limit the Canucks' time and space, while the Canucks will be looking to use their speed and skill to create scoring chances.
Overall, this game has all the makings of a closely contested battle between two teams fighting for playoff positioning. With just a handful of games left in the regular season, every point is crucial and both teams will be leaving it all on the ice in this matchup.
