Predators - Bruins preview, prediction and analysis

The Boston Bruins are well on their way to clinching the presidents trophy in a matter of days and have already secured at least one of the top two spots in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Unless the Bruins go on a massive downfall, I don't foresee Carolina catching up to them.

Boston can reach 121 points with a victory, or 120 points with a overtime loss on Tuesday when they host the Nashville Predators in a game where one team is already firmly entrenched in the playoff situation, while the other team is still fighting for its playoff life and a third straight loss would absolutely hinder those chances.

When you look at what the Bruins have put together this year it truly is remarkable. David Pastrnak has reached 50 goals and that contract is looking more and more like a bargain with each and every given day. Jim Montgomery has this team in the driver's seat and he is looking like he is going to be the Jack Adams winner for coach of the year when all this is said and done.

It's not all roses for Boston. There are still plenty of things that they need to tidy up on in order to go into the playoffs with all the momentum. One of that being the penalty kill, where Boston is right near the middle towards the bottom third period the power play should also be a little bit better but it's closer to the middle of the pack than it should be. The Bruins have talent in every position and are steady in every position. They will more than likely be playing for the Stanley Cup unless they completely choke.

Nashville, on the other hand, will have to get to the playoffs without Matt Duchene, who is weak to weak with a hand injury. Nashville's offense has been hit or miss for the majority of this season, but losing one of their top Centers for the rest of the regular season is going to be a huge mountain to climb.

As it stands, Nashville is five points back of the Winnipeg Jets for the second wild card in the West, but Nashville has two games in hand. It would be a lot more interesting had they not lost those last two games and seemingly put their playoff spot in jeopardy. And if Nashville was to make the playoffs, it would be exactly like last year when they played the Colorado Avalanche in the first round. Getting the second wild card ensures that they play the Vegas Golden Knights. As far as I'm concerned that's not something that you want to strive for.

Prediction

For Nashville to make the playoffs, Juuse Saros it's going to have to play on his head for these final ten games. And at some point, Nashville is going to breakdown defensively and it's going to put their legendary goalie in a huge bind. Congrats Boston on another victory. Bruins 4, Predators 2
