Season Record

Giants: 53-55,3rd place NL West
Padres: 61-50, 2nd place National League West

Ultimately this matchup only benefits the Los Angeles Dodgers… If these two can beat up on each other a bit… The Dodgers pull further away in the standings.  The Padres need these wins if they have any hope of getting on track this season.

A National League West Matchup between the 2nd best and the 3rd best National League West teams.  However it is not that close.  The Dodgers keep spanking the Padres in their series that still has a Sunday afternoon game to play.  The Giants have the cakewalk of playing the Oakland A’s that same Sunday afternoon.  It is all a matter of levels.  The Padres are good, but not nearly Dodger good…. While the Giants are bad… but not nearly as bad as the Diamondbacks and Rockies.  The National League West is not in play!  That is clearly Los Angeles Dodgers territory.  However, as the Padres have picked up Juan Soto and are expecting the return of Fernando Tatis Jr… The result will be a separation between the top two and the rest of the NL West.   This series gives the Giants a chance to delay that separation. Let’s see how this all plays out… and while it does let’s make some money off of wagers.

The San Francisco Giants have won just 4 of their last 10 games.  They went 1-0 against the Oakland A’s (with one more to play), 0-4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1 against the Chicago Cubs, and 0-1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Giants are a team that has dreams of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow.  This season has been a struggle so far.  The hitters are not what they were last season… the pitching is not what it was last season.  The re3sult is a team struggling to hold on to a .500 record… while falling behind that struggle.  The Giants are poised to resurrect from these doldrums with a single good off-season… or they could be on a decade-long downswing if they don’t get it all right soon.

The San Diego Padres have won 6 of their last 10 games.  Curiously the Padres have lost 3-games straight since trading for 23 year old Center Fielder Juan Soto, who happens to be the best hitter in baseball.  Winning takes the right roster and time.  The Padres are very close to the right roster.  If only Fernando Tatis Jr could come back from injury AND not be rusty.  They went 0-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-1 against the Colorado Rockies, and 2-1 against the Minnesota Twins.  The Padres are poised… for what I have no idea.  They could jump up once Fernando returns and Soto finds his stride next to Machado… or they could fall of a cliff if any hitch in their giddyup hits hard.  They have the immediate advantage in this matchup… but let’s check the pitching matchup before the wager.
