Season Record
Giants: 59-59, 3rd place NL West (but 22.5 games back)
Rockies: 51-69, 5th place NL West
(this is a prediction for Game 2 of the series... not Game 1)
A National League West matchup between the 3rd place NL West team and the last place NL West team. This matchup will have no effect on the NL West standings either now or by season’s end. The San Francisco Giants are 22.5 games out of first… The Colorado Rockies are 9 games further back than that. The Giants are on a 2-game losing streak and both of those losses were to the terrible Arizona Diamondbacks, another also ran losing team in the NL West. The Colorado Rockies are on a 5-game losing streak… two of those losses were at the hands of the terrible Arizona Diamondbacks also. These are bad teams… but they do provide something for our purposes and that is a Great Betting Opportunity. A full force set of numbers and betting lines that will rely on the pitching matchup…. And make us some real $$.
The San Francisco Giants have won 6 of their last 10 games. Which seems like a good stretch of games, but it only got them back to .500. They are 59-59 and while not mathematically eliminated from winning over 100 games this season… They would have to all of a sudden set multiple all time winning streak records in order to get close. It won’t happen. Last season’s great team went out the door with Chris Bassett and Kris Humphries, and a handful of others. The performance marks of Brandon Belt and Brandon Brawford Crawford seem like a faded memory. Former Dodger and new Power Hitter Joc Pederson is just not enough. All hope is not lost for next season as they still have many great pieces… but they will need wholesale reinforcements.
The Colorado Rockies have long been an NL West joke. They play in a magical stadium a mile high in the air. A stadium where the air is so thin monster home runs are a routine response to mildly good contact with the ball. As a result this last place team has the 2nd highest batting average anywhere… also as a result they have the 2nd worst pitching numbers anywhere. The formula going forward in Denver should always be to invest in pitching, then pitching, then more pitching. They will never put themselves over the top with a batting advantage at home if they can’t simultaneously find at least a top-ten pitching staff. They have won only 3 of their last 10 games. Losing 0-3 to the St Louis Cardinals, 1-2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-1 against the St Louis Cardinals, and 0-1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Going forward they will need a lot of special “theme nights” to get fans into the stands.

San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies Prediction
Our Prediction for Saturday, August 20th is…. Giants 6 - Rockies 2
The bet is for the Giants on the moneyline. The Rockies could not handle a steady diet of Cardinals and Diamondbacks for the last 2 weeks… The Giants hit much better than those two teams.

Players to Watch
Giants: RHP Alex Cobb, 4-6, 3.99 ERA, 105 strikeouts in 99 innings pitched. 1.29 WHIP. This 34 year old still has some action in his arm and is the better of this matchup.
Rockies: RHP Ryan Fletcher, 2-4, 6.39 ERA, 44 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. 1.48 WHIP. A 25 year old kid with little experience and so far… terrible numbers. He will get shelled.
