Season Record

Padres: 52-42, 2nd place NL West
Mets: 58-35, 1st place NL East

Game 3… of a crazy series that heavily favors the Mets by the numbers.  Let’s check the pitching and make a prediction.

A powerhouse MLB matchup between the best of the NL East and the 2nd place NL West teams.  Their records are close, but not all the way there.  The Mets have the advantage when it comes to winning but just by 4 wins.  The Mets also have the advantage in All-Stars and health at the moment.  The going concern is whether the Padres are where they belong or whether they will begin to tumble to make way for the San Francisco Giants?.... The Mets don’t care about the Nl West… They have Pete Alonzo, Starling Marte, Jeff McNeil and a whole host of offensive firepower.  The Padres are still waiting for their best batter to get back from the injury list.  We have to check the numbers on this one… we have to check the pitching matchup on this one… and we have to put money on this one…. So let’s do it!

The San Diego Padres have won only 4 of their last 10 games leading into the All-Star break.  It has been a sputtering that has nearly killed any momentum they wished to have this season.  Padres fans have pinned their hopes to the return of Fernando Tatis Jr in early August.  The hope is that his inclusion to a line-up that already has Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth will provide a boost to catch the Dodgers… the only problem is that they CAN NOT lose much more ground to the Los Angeles Dodgers… or everything that happens will be too little too late.  They went 1-0 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, 1-3 against the Colorado Rockies, 2-2 against the San Francisco Giants, and 0-1 to the Seattle Mariners.

The New York Mets have won 6 of their last ten games leading into the All-Star break. The Mets are looking toward pitching health and their stellar line-up to carry them through the National League into the World Series against most likely the New York yankees.  That will be a series to remember forever!  A Subway World Series will change everything about modern baseball… The only way the Mets get there is to keep winning. They went 3-1 against the Chicago Cubs,

San Diego Padres vs New York Mets Athletics Prediction

Our Prediction for Sunday, July 24th is….  Mets 4 - Padres 3

The Mets will win again.  I hate to be a chalk eater but the numbers heavily favor the Mets… The win heavily favors the Mets… and since the moneyline is paying well you have to take the Mets.

MLB Betting Trends

The Mets are 45-20 as a favorite of -110 or higher this season.
The Mets are 41-24 when the total is set at 7 to 8.5 this season.
The Padres are 17-12 as an underdog of +100 or higher this season.

Key Injuries

Padres: SS Fernando Tatis JR (wrist) OUT ** LF W. Meyers (knee) ** M. Beaty (shoulder) Out

Mets: 1B D. Smith (ankle) Out ** C J. McCann (oblique) Out ** C T Nido (forearm) Out **

Players to Watch

Padres: RHP Joe Musgrove, 8-2, 2.42 ERA, 102 strikeouts in 104 innings pitched.  0.97 WHIP.  This 29 year old is the actual Padres ACE… and he will lose this game.  He has to pitch a gauntlet of great batters all while getting run support… it won’t all line up.

Mets: RHP Carlos Curasco, 10-4, 4.27 ERA, 100 strikeouts in 99 innings pitched.  1.33 Whip.  Carlos’s ERA looks awful… but this 35 year old gas learned to do just enough to keep winning.  He will get the run support.  He will drink champagne in the winners circle.

Starting Lineups

Padres: LF Jurickson Purifar, 1B jake Cronenworth, 3B Manny Machado, C Jorge Alfaro, DH Luke Voit, SS ha-Seong Kim, CF Trent Grisham, RF Esteurty Ruiz, 2B Matthew batten

Mets: CF Brandon Nimmo, RF Starling Marte, SS Francisco Lindor, 1B Pete ASlonso, DH Jeff McNeil, 3B Eduardo Escobar, LF Mark Canha, 2B Luis Guillorme, C Patrick Mazeika

Managers

Padres: Bob “um ma ma um” Melvin
Mets: Buck “ I’m not as old as my picture” Showalter

Weather Forecast

Holy hot summer Batman! Between Grand Central Parkway and the Van Wyck Expressway... You not only have great bagels and pizza… You also have 95*, 40 humidity and 13 mph winds.  It’s a hot summer in the city… just don’t actually think the ball will fly over that 40% humidity.  It will get smacked down.
