The Giants took Game 1 of the series with game 2 coming tonight (Friday)... his prediction is for game 3.  It is absolutely a game where we HAVE TO check the pitching matchup.  These teams are close… The Giants, though favored, are capable of dropping a game to anyone… let’s see.

A National League matchup between the 3rd place team in the worst division and the 3rd place team in the best division.  It seems close on paper, but not in the numbers.  The Cubs are a joke.  The Cubs are actually a big part of why the Brewers keep finishing in first place in the NL Central.  The Giants are not a joke, but they have certainly hit hard times.  The Giants can barely remember the team last season who had better hitters and pitchers and finished with 107 wins on the regular season.  Can the joke beat the disappointment?  Can the 3rd place nobody beat the 3rd place somebody?... It all comes down to the pitchers and the numbers.  Also I have taken a beating over the last 20 days of predictions…. So now I am only up by $13,450 over the baseball season.  Basketball was better for me… Football was better for me…. I will be pouring myself into the baseball numbers to keep the winning alive… I will also dip into the handicappers at BigAl.com… Lets make some cash before football starts!

The Chicago Cubs have won 6 of their last 10 games.  They are on a fantastic 6-game winning streak.  It feels good in Chicago to see the morning recap.  It is all an illusion though.  They went 2-0 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-0 (in a sweep) against the Philadelphia Phillies, 1-3 against the New York Mets, and 0-1 against the Baltimore Orioles.  The Cubs rely on Patrick Wisdom and Nico Hoerner for offense… while seemingly having very little pitching.  These will be hard numbers.

The San Francisco Giants have won a sad 3 of their last 10 games.  The rumors are swirling that the team has given up and is incapable of the teamwork that brought them the 100+ wins last season… They are also missing some batting pieces and some pitching pieces from last season… but c'est' La Vie.  They are on a horrible 7-game winning streak that ultimately benefits the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. They got Swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks 0-3, Sweat by the Los Angeles Dodgers 0-4, and beat the Milwaukee Bucks 3-0 during that stretch.

Chicago Cubs vs San Francisco Giants Athletics Prediction

Our Prediction for Saturday, July 30th is….  Cubs 5 - Giants 3

This bet is for the Cubs to win on the moneyline.  It is a nice close moneyline and based on very recent numbers the Cubs pitcher may be on enough of an upswing to take this one.  Enjoy the game and the decent payout.

Players to Watch

Cubs: LHP Drew Smyly, 3-5, 3.93 ERA, 43 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched.  1.27 WHIP.  Smyly has been somewhat better over recent starts lowering both his ERA and WHIP.

Giants: RHP Jakob Junis, 4-2, 2.98 ERA, 44 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched. 1.01 WHIP.  Jakob is a fine pitcher with a career losing record as a starter.  His WHIP is nice… but he really really is going to need run support to get wins.

Weather Forecast

Mostly Cloudy, 64*, Humidity 83%... wind 16 mph… Horrible weather for a deep summer day… but then again it is San Francisco.
