Season Record

D-Backs: 56-67, 4th place NL West
White Sox: 63-62, 3rd place AL Central

An Inter-League matchup between the 4th place National League West team and the 3rd place American League Central team.  The results of this game will have zero effect on the postseason.  The airing of this game will have zero effect on MLB’s ratings.  Few people outside of Phoenix or Chicago will be watching… and few people inside of Phoenix and Chicago will be watching.  So, what is the point?... Well it turns out to be a Great Betting Opportunity.  It’s worthwhile to find these little pitching matchups among bad teams that provide a “sort of” certainty against the numbers.  Nothing is ever certain in baseball… but it is nice to have an even money (or close) return on your wager… and teams like this provide that on the MoneyLine.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have won 4 of their last 10 games.  The Diamondbacks are victims of a years-long identity… Never dominant in any stat and never the worst team.  It constantly feels like the Diamondbacks are pushing a rock up a hill and no matter how much progress they make… something comes along to add a little weight to that rock.  The Diamondbacks have been the victim of their division producing multiple 100+ win teams over the last few years.  They have sat in the shadow of the Dodgers, the Giants, and the Padres… when one of those teams does poorly… it is nearly guaranteed the other two start playing great.  The Diamondbacks aren’t alone in this gutter… They have the Colorado Rockies to sit at the bottom with… but it has been a long time since either team has even threatened to climb the ladder.  They went 1-1 against the Kansas City Royals, 0-3 against the St Louis Cardinals, 2-2 against the San Francisco Giants, and 0-1 against the Colorado Rockies.

The Chicago White Sox have also won only 4 of their last 10 games.  An equal number of fruitless outings as the D-Backs.  The White Sox have the better record but they easily play in a worse division… So are these teams equal?  The White Sox have a much better batting average for sure… in fact the White Sox are top-five in the league in team batting average…. Why aren’t they winners?  The pitching number sare also better than the D-Backs team numbers, but this matchup could answer if all those numbers are fugazzi since they are mostly compiled against other AL Central teams.  They went 1-2 against the Baltimore Orioles, 0-1 against the Kansas City Royals, 1-1 against the Cleveland Guardians, and 2-2 against the worthless cheating Houston Astros.  Those two Astros wins are impressive… but are they head and shoulders above the 2 D-Backs wins over the San Francisco Giants?... (yes).

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Chicago White Sox Prediction

Our Prediction for Saturday, August 27th is…. D-Backs 5 - W Sox 3

This is a bet for the D-backs for sure.  They are behind in the numbers but will certainly be putting up the better pitcher.  The bet is for the D-backs on the moneyline.

Weather Forecast

Mostly Sunny, 80*, Humidity 64%, Precipitation 10%, wind 9 mph.  A Chicago guy once tried to break down to me how certain streets and neighborhoods lean either toward the Cubs or the White Sox… but it didn’t make sense… So instead we ate pizza and then headed to a great little bar where Roger Ebert used to drink.  We had a few… and I still have no idea who should root for who?  Nice architecture in Chicago though.
