Wild - Lightning preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Wild: lost 5-3 at Panthers
Lightning: lost 6-3 at Flames

The Minnesota Wild will be playing the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, January 24 in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The Minnesota Wild lost against the Florida Panthers last Saturday, January 21 in Sunrise, Florida with a score of 5-3. The Minnesota Wild currently rank 3rd in the Central Division. Joel Eriksson Ek had a goal and two assists, Matt Boldy had a goal and an assist, and Kirill Kaprizov had three assists for the Wild. Filip Gustavsson made 22 saves.Filip Gustavsson made 22 saves.

"We battled hard like we always do," Minnesota defenseman Calen Addison said. "We played a full 60. I don't think some of the bounces went our way. That's hockey. I think we've just got to tighten up. Less turnovers. Maybe less penalties. I don't know. There's no real answer."

Carter Verhaeghe pushed the Florida lead to 3-1 on the power play at 19:32 with a snap shot from the left circle.

Eriksson Ek cut it to 3-2 at 4:37 of the third period with a power-play goal on the doorstep.

"We actually liked our game pretty much the whole night," Wild coach Dean Evason said. "Obviously we didn't get the results, and we didn't score enough. … [At] 5-on-5 here tonight we didn't find a way to score. … If you're not scoring, you've got to continually work at keeping it out of our net, and we didn't here tonight."

The Wild have split their last 10 games despite this run of losing. Technically, they've lost five of their last seven on the money line with no consistency in goal, or at the scoring aspect. When they're good, they're averaging four goals a game. Anything else, I'm scared if they feel like showing up that day.

The Tampa Bay Lightning lost against the Calgary Flames last Saturday, January 21 in Calgary with a score of 6-3. The Tampa Bay Lightning currently rank 3rd in the Atlantic Division. Steven Stamkos and Anthony Cirelli scored, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 35 saves for the Lightning.

"If we can win five, lose two, win five, lose two, I'll take that all day," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "That'll get us home ice (in the Stanley Cup Playoffs). It's just frustrating. To me that's always a successful trip, but when you go 3-0 and drop the last two, it makes it a little sour. But we'll take it. About .500 on the trip, and it puts a little more stress on us at home to do better than that."

The Lightning have lost two straight after winning five in a row, but are still on a good form of winning.  The over has hit two straight after pushes in two of the last three.

Prediction

Tampa likely needed to be back home after a five-game road trip that proved successful at the start. What will help is getting back to home ice and taking care of business. Lightning 5, Wild 3
