Wild - Coyotes preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Wild: won 3-2 (SO) vs. Sabres
Coyotes: lost 2-1 (OT) at Ducks

The Minnesota Wild will be playing the Arizona Coyotes on Monday, February 6 in Tempe, Arizona.

The Minnesota Wild won against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, January 28 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota with a score of 3-2 in a shootout. The Minnesota Wild currently rank 3rd in the Central Division.

The Minnesota Wild ended the Buffalo Sabres' five-game winning streak. Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves, and Joel Eriksson Ek and Jared Spurgeon scored for Minnesota (27-17-4), which had lost three of four. It was the last game before the All-Star break for the Wild.

"I'm just glad we didn't get away from our game," Wild coach Dean Evason said. "It was close, it was tight. We made some mistakes for sure, but guys were backing each other up and picking each other up on the bench. We didn't have the jump that I think we normally have, so we grinded, which is how we're going to win hockey games anyway. They put a little more emphasis on that, and we got it done."

Eriksson Ek tied it 1-1 at 3:35, chipping in a pass from Kaprizov 11 seconds into a power play.

Spurgeon tied it 2-2 at 12:39, one-timing a pass across the slot from Frederick Gaudreau for his fourth goal in six games.

"I didn't have to do too much, just direct it in," Spurgeon said. "[Gaudreau's] been playing great, does so many good things away from the puck as well. He's such an underrated player and a big reason why we won."

The Minnesota Wild have won five of their last 10 games.

The Arizona Coyotes lost against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, January 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California with a score of 2-1 in overtime. The Arizona Coyotes currently rank 7th in the Central Division.

Nick Ritchie scored, and Connor Ingram made an NHL career-high 43 saves for the Coyotes (16-28-6), who have lost two of three.

"He's playing very well," Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said of Ingram. "He was definitely our best player tonight. I think he made key saves. It's good for him. He's a great person. I'm so happy for him."

Ritchie gave Arizona a 1-0 lead at 16:21 of the first period. He kept the puck in at the left point down to Christian Fischer, who skated out from behind the net and sent a backhand pass through the slot to Ritchie, who scored past Gibson's blocker.

The Arizona Coyotes have won three of their last 10 games.

Prediction

The Coyotes have played well at home the past few games, but a rested Wild team ready for a push in the second half should call for something interesting. Wild 4, Coyotes 3
