Memphis vs Mississippi State Prediction

The current betting odds have Mississippi State listed as a 16 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Mississippi State had a mediocre season last year but they started to look a lot better near the end of the season, and with a lot of returning players this year they should be able to build on that this year improving their team. They had a great offense last year led by Will Rogers who had over 4,000 passing yards, and he is returning for another season with the team along with a lot of their players from the offense. They also have a lot of players returning on defense and they had a great defense last season as well that did not allow many points and was getting better near the end of the year. Memphis has been a bit of a disappointment the last few years, they also have a lot of returning players this year but they were a team last season that could score a lot of points in their games, but they would get ripped up on defense and allowed a lot of points. Memphis is going to struggle to score on the Mississippi State defense here on the road and Mississippi State will be able to rip up this bad Memphis defense that has not made many improvements from last year. The best way to place a bet here is on Mississippi State to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

“I think that’s the mentality of a lot of people from Memphis. Right the 901, we take a lot of pride. And we always say the Grit and Grind that we’ve thrown out before, but I want our guys to always feel like the underdog mentality. I mean maybe that’s just because that’s the way their head coach is, but I firmly believe our guys always want to feel underappreciated. Let’s go out there and work and earn everything we get. And that’s what I appreciate about their approach, is there’s none of this. We talked even last year, we were 3-0. There was none of this ‘Oh, we’re great’, we haven’t accomplished anything.” - Ryan Silverfield on his team coming into the season.

"You knock those guys off and send them to the East and we have to play Texas and OU, tell me how I've lost on that deal. I have a lot of respect for those guys, but in this conference they can just go ahead and get in line with everybody else." - Mike Leach on Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC in a few years.
