Tigers vs Red Wolves Prediction

The Memphis Tigers are coming into this college football game sitting in 3rd place of the AAC with a 1-0 record. They won their season opener against Nicholls State 42-17. Seth Henigan was the only quarterback to play for them in that game and he played a good game completing 19/32 passes for 265 yards and 1 touchdown. Brandon Thomas had a great game leading his team in rushing with 147 yards and 1 touchdown on 16 carries. Rodrigues Clark also had a good game with 84 rushing yards and 1 touchdown on 9 carries. Marquavius Weaver also found the end zone on the ground in that one. Javon Ivory played a great game as well, leading his team in receiving yards with 106 on 5 receptions. Calvin Austin III caught the only passing touchdown in this game for Memphis. JJ Russell and Quindell Johnson both led the team on defense with 5 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles each. Sylvonta Oliver caught the only interception for the team but none of the players were able to get to the QB recording 0 sacks in the game as a team.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves are coming into this matchup sitting in 1st place of the Sun Belt Group B with a 1-0 record. They won their first game of the season against Central Arkansas 40-21. James Blackman had a decent game in the last one completing 16/26 passes for 169 yards. Layne Hatcher played an even better game though completing 12/12 passes for 150 yards and 4 touchdown passes. Alan Lamar led the running game with 67 yards and the only touchdown on the ground for them on 18 carries. Marcel Murray also played well with 63 rushing yards on 7 carries. Kivon Bennett also had 4 solo tackles and the only sack in the game for them. Samy Johnson and Elery Alexander both had an interception each in the last game as well.

Both of these teams have been rolling on offense and can score a lot of points. Memphis is good in both the running game and the passing game and the Red Wolves have been doing well in both departments as well. Memphis is always known for high scoring games and they are likely to be involved in another one here. There is some value in this game to go over the total.

Players to Watch

Memphis Tigers: Brandon Thomas is one player to watch in this game. He almost put up 150 rushing yards in their last game and he will need to continue that here to help his team win. The run game will put less stress on the quarterback allowing them to throw the ball more and deeper down the field. Watch for him to have another breakout game to help his team with the play action pass.

Arkansas State Red Wolves: Layne Hatcher is one player to watch in these road and home games for Memphis. He completed every single pass he threw in the last game and still had 150 yards and 4 touchdown passes. Watch for him to have another good game as he looks to win the starting job on this team at the quarterback position.

Notable Quotes

"I don't see Grant being able to participate in the foreseeable future." - Ryan Silverfield on Grant after he had surgery.

"I liked the way they responded, but didn't like the way we started. I think we experienced everything negative that you could experience in a first half. We talked about the DNA of our football team and the ability to persevere. We definitely didn't play winning football and have a lot to learn from, but we came out in the second half and finally played complementary football. I said I'd learn a lot about this team tonight, and we have a lot of things to work on to get better. We know, with the schedule coming up, that we have to get better in a hurry." - Butch Jones after winning his coaching debut with the Red Wolves.
