We are having one of those years… the previously bad teams are rising and the previously good teams are stagnating.  The NBA season is wildly young yet… Both these teams could be a NBA Playoffs winning team this year… but both could regress to the mean and be a losing team by the middle of next week.  As regular season NBA games go, this is an average matchup on an average night.  Yet for fans and bettors it’s the night to strike while the iron is hot!! The Grizzlies have lost three games, to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Miami Heat.  Maybe not all good teams, but all good rosters with big stars. They beat the Clippers, the Denver Nuggets (twice), the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Golden State Warriors.  The highlights for the Grizzlies have all been about how Ja Morant is approaching the MVP discussion and the best place for him is on the court against a team like the Wizards where he will shine brightly.

The Wizards have lost to the Brooklyn Nets, The Atlanta Hawks, and the Boston Celtics.  Again maybe not all good teams, but all good rosters with big stars.  They have beaten the Toronto Raptors (who lucked out in the NBA draft with Scottie Barnes and the 4th overall NBA draft pick, he’s worth a rookie watch even in Canada), the Indiana Pacers, the Boston Celtics, the Atlanta hawks, and the Atlanta Hawks again.

The Grizzlies are scoring 109.8 ppg.  They are 4th in the league in 3-pointers made. They are 52.3 effective field goal percent shooting. We may not know if this is a quality offense until Jan, Feb… The way NBA basketball works if you watch NBA game action is these numbers change nightly and based on rookies improving while vets are declining… still the grizzlies can get a basket. They also don’t seem to play differently in road games or home games.

The Wizards are scoring 106.2 ppg.  They are 14th in 3 -pointers made and a small 20th in effective field goal percentage.  The stats feel bad yet they have the same record as the Grizzlies. We are used to the Wizards having a terrible offense and a three-game, four-game streak could put them right back into that box.
