RECENT FORM
The Mem Grizzlies are flirting with being a good team this year… It has been a while. If you haven’t been paying attention since they last made the playoffs the lineup is all new and very young. This off-season the Grizz traded Center Jonas Valanciunas to the Pelicans for Center Steven Adams which seems like a lateral move, but came with some ancillary pieces to fill out the bench and stock the draft pick jar. So far this season they have beaten the Cleveland Cavaliers 132-121, beaten the Los Angeles Clippers 120-114, and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in a very close game 121-118.
The Golden State Warriors still have Stephen Curry. Plus they have been building slowly… they missed the playoffs two years ago… were a play-in tournament team last season. Curry still shoots the best shot in the NBA. ESPN has reason to play Curry highlights this season… They are undefeated and waiting for 3 of the top six guys to return from injury. They beat the Los Angeles Lakers in their first game 121-114, the Los Angeles Clippers 115-113, the Sacramento Kings 119-107, and the Oklahoma City Thunder 106-98. The Warriors can handle Western Conference play. Oct has been a Warriors celebration.
Offensive Analysis
The Grizzlies are 1st in points scored, 3rd in FG% in the NBA, 5th in 3PT%, 9th in offensive rebounds. The team is really coming together. Defense shouldn’t be a challenge for Memphis because of jaren Jackson Jr and Steven Adams controlling the paint… as well as slo-mo Kyle Anderson getting his long arms in passing lanes. The Warriors so far haven’t seen this level of team defense.
The Warriors are 10th in points scored, they average 46.6 from FG range, 38.1 from 3-point range. The Warriors never went anywhere when Kevin Durant decided to be less relevant… they just have been waiting for Klay Thompson to get healthy and return them to glory. I am of the mind that Klay will never, ever reach the levels he left the game at 2 seasons ago. He will never be a 22+ ppg guy again. He may still shoot well, but he will never ever be the defender he was… It also doesn’t matter. If Klay comes back as a 15ppg, 5 rb, guy in limited minutes… he still will boost the team’s mood and bolster the young guys to greatness.
