Season Record

UL-Monroe: 2-5 conf, 4-7 overall (Sun Belt)
Louisiana Ragin Cajuns: 7-0 conf, 10-1 overall

Ul Monroe's games have not been Sun Belt conference highlights.  ULM did not fare well in Sep or OCT.  They entered September 4-4 overall and promptly lost to their next 3 opponents.  They are on a 4-game losing streak.  The Warhawks will be no one’s trendy college football pick this weekend.  However they are 21-22 point underdogs… against another Sun Belt team?  Could they lose by that many points?   They lost to the Kentucky Wildcats by 35, they lost to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers by 53, and the Georgia State Panthers by 34.  They are capable of losing big… but are the Cajuns in the same class as those other teams.  The Warhawks did just lose to the LSU Tigers 27-14, but in the process beat the Spread.

Louisiana's games have been a Cajun fun-fest.  They have won 10 straight since losing their opener to the Texas Longhorns 38-18.  Two games stand out; The Cajuns pounded Texas State 45-0 while ULM lost to Texas State 27-19… sounds definitive!  Except… Louisiana beat last place Arkansas State by 1 point 28-27, ULM lost to Arkansas State by 3 points.  It’s a conundrum unless Arkansas State is a good team that is masquerading as a Sun Belt conference last place team.

UL-Monroe vs Louisiana Cajuns Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM

UL-Monroe is 4-7 on the season, and 4-6-1 ATS.  They have logged 6 Overs and 5 Unders.  They have a terrible road record of 0-5.

OFFENSIVE ANALYSIS

The offense for ULM is ranked 113th in the FBS.  They gain 329.4 yards per game and have scored a total of 26 touchdowns.  Their Red Zone performance is 59th in the FBS… the trouble of course is getting to the Red Zone.  They are 103rd in passing offense.

The Louisiana offense is ranked 65th in the FBS.  They have been on a tear in the win column while gaining 408.8 yards per game and have scored 46 touchdowns.  They are 35th in the FBS in the running game with 194.7 yards per.  They are nearly perfectly balanced with 215 yards per game in the passing game.

DEFENSIVE ANALYSIS

UL Monroe stats on defense have been dropping week after week.  They now sit at 117th in the FBS giving up 458.2 ypg and having allowed 50 touchdowns.  They are fortunate to be 83rd in the FBS in run defense which will keep them in the game to start… Until the Cajuns get the passing game in gear… That’s where the Warhawks are 126th in the FBS.  They allow 297 yards through the air per game and have allowed 29 passing TDs.

The Cajuns are 42nd in the FBS on defense.  They allow 351.9 ypg and given up 26 TDs.

UL-Monroe Warhawks vs Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Prediction

Our prediction for Saturday, November 27th, is… Ragin Cajuns 45 - Warhawks 13

It looks like the Cajuns will cover.  Last game, last chance for another big win for the 23rd ranked team in the nation.  As far as the Warhawks are concerned the season and any motivation for a bowl invite was extinguished 3 games ago. No contest.

Coaches

ULM:  Terry Bowden. Coach Bowden has coached college football over multiple decades.  He is in his first year with the Warhawks, but put in 6 seasons coaching Akron, 2 seasons coaching North Alabama, 5 seasons with Auburn, 5 seasons with Samford… it goes on.  His college football coaching career record is 179-121-2, his Warhawk record so far is 4-7, a cool record he has is longest winning streak in Auburn history at 20 games!!  He went 11-0 in his first season then 9-1-1 in his second.

Louisiana: Billy Napier.  Coach Napier spent a lot of years as a position coach and 1 season as an offensive coordinator at Arizona State.  He took the head coaching job at Louisiana in 2018.  He has a record now of 38-12… he has a bowl game record of 2-1.  He won the Sun Belt Championship in 2020 and the Sun Belt coach of the year in 2019.  He has been building a resume and is most likely close to getting the call up to a bigger job… He needs to be desperately careful about which job to jump to.
