Kings - Jets preview, prediction and analysis

The Los Angeles Kings will be playing the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, February 28 in .

The Los Angeles Kings lost against the New York Rangers on Sunday, February 26 at Madison Square Garden in New York with a score of 5-2. The Los Angeles Kings currently rank 2nd in the Pacific Division.

Jonathan Quick was pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on seven shots for the Kings (33-20-8), who are 1-2-1 on a five-game road trip that will conclude at the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Pheonix Copley allowed two goals on 14 shots in relief.

"I thought we were five or six players shy of having an opportunity to win. And I'm not talking about the goaltender," Los Angeles coach Todd McLellan said.

New York scored three goals before Viktor Arvidsson cut it to 3-1 at 18:12 when he batted in the puck near the left post for a power-play goal. Matt Roy got the Kings to within 3-2 at 1:27 of the third period, finishing off a 2-on-1 with Phillip Danault with a wrist shot from the edge of the right circle.

Artemi Panarin quickly responded for the Rangers to make it 4-2 at 2:11. He put in his own rebound after Copley lost his balance making the initial save.

"It was just a couple tough bounces really," Los Angeles captain Anze Kopitar said. "I think there's not a whole lot of stuff that we didn't like in the first period or in the second. Obviously, sometimes bounces don't go your way. We realize you've got to play for your bounces, too, and tonight it didn't go for us."

Mika Zibanejad scored the final goal of the game making the final score 5-2.

The Los Angeles Kings have won five of their last 10 games.

The Winnipeg Jets lost against the New York Islanders on Sunday, February 26 at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg with a score of 4-0. The Winnipeg Jets currently rank 4th in the Central Division.

David Rittich made 20 saves for the Jets (35-24-1), who have lost three straight and five of six.

"We've talked about this all year, when things don't go well and you're not scoring, don't look for that extra pass and don't look for the perfect goal," Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said. "Just put it on the net. We had like 45 shot attempts after two periods, 15 missed the net and 15 were blocked. We need some of those to get through."

The Islanders outshot the Jets 12-1 in the first period.

"We need to be better in the first periods, we need to be better off the start, and we can't be a fragile team right now," Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey said. "I'm not saying that we are, but we certainly can't fall into that mode. We're an aggressive team. We have to be able to make plays, make passes and not just panic because we're going through a little bit of a rut. I thought we got better at that throughout the game."

Semyon Varlamov made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season for the New York Islanders in a 4-0 win.

"We gotta figure it out," Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois said. "I, personally, individually, I don't think it's one guy that has the answer in here. It's everybody together. It's the coaching staff. We all gotta figure it out. You guys see it, we're not playing good hockey right now. But at the same time, we can turn this around and turn it into a positive. We just got to get going. Time's running out."

The Winnipeg Jets have won four of their last 10 games.
