Kings - Flyers preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Kings: won 2-1 at Blackhawks
Flyers: lost 5-3 vs. Jets

The Los Angeles Kings will be playing the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, January 24 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Los Angeles Kings won against the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday, January 22 in Chicago, Illinois with a score of 2-1. The Los Angeles Kings currently rank 3rd in the Pacific Division. Jaret Anderson-Dolan scored two goals and Kevin Fiala had two assists for the Kings. Pheonix Copley made 18 saves.

"I think it was big for everybody," Copley said. "It's been frustrating the last two games. I think everyone was a little frustrated, and we played with a little more attitude and a little more urgency in our game. That's why we came out with two points.

"I want to get back at it. Obviously, it's frustrating. I want to give the boys a chance to win every time I'm in there. I felt I didn't do that the last couple games. Yeah, I wanted to get back in and be a part of the team, be a part of getting a win and do my part. It was great to get back in tonight."

It was Anderson-Dolan's first multigoal NHL game.

"For him in particular and the group, they pull for this kid," Los Angeles coach Todd McLellan said. "They see him work and do all the things he needs to do to be ready all the time. To get the two goals, the coaching staff [is] obviously very happy for him, but the players, really happy for him. He's become a big factor and a big impact on our team."

The Kings ended their three-game losing streak with the win in Chicago, posted as high as -227 favorites on the money line. They've gone 5-5 in their last 10 with the over going 5-4-1 in the last 10. The goaltending is going to long remain an issue for the Kings, and if that can't get going, the scoring is going to dry up at some point.

The Philadelphia Flyers lost against the Winnipeg Jets Sunday, January 22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a score of 5-3. The Philadelphia Flyers currently rank 7th in the Metropolitan Division. Kevin Hayes scored two power-play goals, Ivan Provorov scored one goal, and Felix Sandstrom made 25 saves for Philadelphia.

"I think we played great and battled the whole game," Sandstrom said. "It's tough to have to start like that. Just shows how hard this group works and how hard they worked today."

Sandstrom was playing his first NHL game since Dec. 13. He had been recalled from a conditioning stint with Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League on Friday.

"Ended up in between what I wanted to do so it was a real bad play on my part," Sandstrom said. "... I'm really disappointed with myself with that. So yeah, not the best performance in that situation."

The Flyers were also playing the second of a back to back after a 2-1 victory at the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

"We stuck with it and grinded out," Owen Tippett said. "Obviously, it's a lot of hockey here in the last week, I think it was five in seven nights. So obviously just trying to keep the energy up and keep our feet moving."

The Flyers still remain one of the more weird teams in the league with no true direction. That loss to Winnipeg on Sunday was par for the course, it seemed like, but the Flyers can't gain any consistency, hence why they're 5-3 in their last eight on the money line.

Prediction

The Kings have been a solid road team all year long while the Flyers are just 10-12-1 at home. I wonder how the ice conditions will fare after WWE Raw was there on Monday so that might play a factor. If Jonathan Quick goes for the Kings, I can see the Flyers somehow making a game out of this. Flyers 3, Kings 2

Betting trends

Kings are 2-7 when playing a third game in four days this season.

Kings are 9-9 revenging a loss as a favorite this season.

Flyers are 26-67 when playing a 4th game in 7 days the last 3 seasons.
