Season Record

Dodgers: 27-12, 1st place NL West
Nationals: 13-28, 5th place NL East

Game 2 of this series brings a heartfelt desire to bet again on the Dodgers.  They are the better team by a lot regardless of the result of Game 1 of this series (still to play tonight).

A National League battle of the Best in the West and the worst in the East.  The two clubs are ridiculously close at the plate.  Both clubs hit the ball really well.  The problem comes when we compare the pitchers…. The dead last team in the NL East, the Washington Nationals have no pitching whatsoever.  They are terrible with no way out unless they move some of the good hitting.  The West’s best, the Los Angeles Dodgers have maybe the best pitching staff in all the league!  They are so good that manager Dave Roberts has trouble figuring out which amazing bullpen thrower should be tested as a starter?... It’s an important challenge early in the season… but if they played well?… Who would they replace?  The starters and the bullpen are amazing.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 7 of their last 10 games.  They are currently on a 7-game winning streak.  They have posted 7 Over, 1 Under and 2 Push.  If you had followed my advice to simply keep betting in the Dodgers you would be on a 7-game streak.  If you had gone double or nothing a couple of times… You would be outbidding me for the Charcoal Metallic Land Rover at Thousand Oaks Land Rover (and Ferrari) dealership.  The Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 in two games, they swept the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 in a 4-game series, and they went 1-3 in 4 games with the Philadelphia Phillies last week.

The Washington Nationals have won only 3 of their last ten games.  They logged 4 over and 6 Under during that stretch.  They went 0-2 to the Milwaukee Bucks (with 1 game left to play tonight), 1-2 against the Miami Marlins, 1-2 against the Houston Astros, and 1-1 against the New York Mets.  They have no pitching worth talking about or writing home about or even putting on the mound… but it is baseball… so any given day… right?... No matter that the team is averaging 5.01 team ERA?... Right?... Right?... No.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Washington Nationals Prediction

Our prediction for Tuesday May 24th is… Dodgers 7 - Nationals 2

The Nationals pitching staff will keep being awful… unless you heard something about a trede or a call-up… but it would have to be a call-up from the multiverse where the Nationals Minor league prospects are any good.

MLB Betting Trends

The Dodgers are 8-0 (+8.0 Units) against the Nationals the last 3 seasons.
The Dodgers are 5-0 against Washington in Washington DC the last 3 seasons.

Key Injuries

Dodgers: SP Clayton Kershaw (elbow) Out **

Nationals: 2B A. Escobar (undisclosed) Out ** 3B E. Adrianza (quad) Out ** 3B C. Kieboom (elbow) Out

Players to Watch

Dodgers: RHP Walker Buehler, 5-1, 2.89 ERA, 39 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched. 1.22 WHIP.  Walker is a stone cold killer.  At 27 years old he has 5-6 more years of prime pitching. I usually like to see 1 strikeout per inning pitched… but Walker has all the other stats to be an ACE.

Nationals: RHP Josiah Gray, 4-3, 4.36 ERA, 46 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched.  1.27 WHIP.  Josiah is obviously a good pitcher on a bad team.  His record would be different if he got more support.  But the telling flaw is high ERA.  At 24 years old all these Nationals games will be considered warm-up for his real career elsewhere.

Starting Lineups

Dodgers: RF Mookie Betts, 1B Freddie Freeman, SS Trea Turner, C Will Smith, 3B Max Muncy, DH Justin Turner, CF Cody Bellinger, LF Chris Taylor, 2B Gavin Lux

Nationals: 2B Cesar Hernandez, RF Juan Soto, DH Nelson Cruz, 1B Josh Bell, LF Yadiel Hernandez, 3B Maikel Franco, CF Lane Thomas, SS Dee Strange-Gordon

Managers

Dodgers: Dave Roberts
Nationals: Dave Martinez

It’s the battle of the Daves.

Weather Forecast

Cloudy.  74* HUMIDITY AT 45%... chance of precipitation, 20%.  There is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for all day Sunday.  The field will be damp and muddy and the air will be clean and sticky.
