Dodgers: 67-33, 1st place NL West
Giants: 50-51, 3rd place, NL West

A National League West Matchup between the 1st place Los Angeles Dodgers and 3rd place San Francisco Giants.  As recently as last season this matchup had much more significance.  Last season the Giants ran hard and fast all the way to 107 wins… The Dodgers stayed close on the Giants heels, hitting a mark of 106 wins… Then ultimately the Dodgers beat the Giants in  the playoffs. It was hard fought… It was an ultimate rivalry on full display as the winning and losing in head to head went back and forth all season long.  This season is different.  The Dodgers are on pace for another 100+ win season… while the Giants have fallen into a deep dark hole.  The Dodgers are 17.5 games ahead of the Giants.  In their last head to head (just 12 days ago) the Dodgers Swept the series against the Giants in Dodger stadium.

The Dodgers have won 7 of their last 10 games.  They have gone 2-1 against the Colorado Rockies so far (Game 4 still to play), 1-2 against the Washington Nationals, and Swept the Giants 4-0 during that span.  The Giants may have built up a score to settle now that the series is in San Francisco… but they looked so inept against the Dodgers in LA that that will be hard to forget.  The Dodgers rely on their ever growing offensive awesomeness to score runs… a top three in the line-up of Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, and Freddie Freeman is a sick gauntlet for any team to get through.  The rumors of the Dodgers adding Juan Soto has cooled a bit and now favors the Padres… mainly because the Dodgers will have no where to put Juan in the line-up that makes sense commensurate to his talent… also since the Dodgers have jumped to the lead in the Shohei Ohtani Trade Rumors.  Either way the Dodgers have a loaded farm system with no opening for those guys to fill any time soon.  A mega trade will happen… the “who” remains unknown.

The San Francisco Giants have been abused by the injury list this season.  At this moment Crawford, Joc Pederson, and Longoria are all out.  That is a major power suck on the lineup… add to that that both Crawford’s and Longoria's primary back-ups are out with injury too… This is a team that will keep struggling.  They have won only 2 of their last ten games.  Going 2-1 against the Chicago Cubs, 0-3 against the Arizona Diamondbacks and 0-4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers during that stretch.  This team needs a hard reset and unfortunately will not get it soon.  The good news is they have committed owners and a rabid fan base… they will recover very soon… just not this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Prediction

Our prediction for Monday August 1st is…  Dodgers 7 - Giants 3

Yes, in Oracle Park the Dodgers will make quick work of the Giants in the opening game of the series.  The Dodgers are too loaded for a Giants team that is struggling to hit .500 on the season. Gone are some of the big names from last season’s Giants club… while more and more big names keep showing up on the Dodgers roster.  The Giants have plenty of talent, but it will take a full offseason to orchestrate a turnaround of their current luck.  The bet is for the Dodgers on the moneyline.

Weather Forecast

Partly Cloudy, 70*, humidity 72%, wind 15 mph. It can get downright chilly in San Francisco in the evening.  The presence of the Pacific Ocean just steps from the stadium plays a big part in brisk winds and the occasional light rain.  San Francisco is a great place to visit if you have tons of money for tiny hotel rooms and very expensive restaurants.  However you wouldn’t want to be there in a T-shirt after sunset. Bring a hoodie.
