Recent Form:

On Wednesday night Cody Bellinger hit 2 Homers against the Phillies and his swing looked effortless and finally fully repaired. That three-game series moved directly into this three-game series.  The first game against The Mets (friday night) doesn’t yet have the results in.

The Dodgers are 7-3 over their last ten. Logging 4 Overs, 5 Unders and 1 Push. 2-0 against the Diamondbacks, 1-1 against Houston, 2-1 against the Agels and 2-1 against the Phillies.

The Mets are also rolling off a three-game series against Washington where they swept all three.  The problem going into this series is of course they are the Mets and the other team is the Dodgers.

The Mets are 4-6 over their last ten games. Notching 5 Overs and 5 Unders.

Statistical Comparison:

The Dodgers are 5th in Major League batting and rising fast.  The bats are hot and hitting.  They are 10th in team batting average ( .246), 5th in home runs (158), 2nd in runs scored (597) (the best stat to rank high in as it pertains to winning).

Dodgers pitching ranks 1st in MLB.  This is where the rubber hits the road and they technically got better at the trade deadline… Could they go higher?  Team ERA 1st 3.13, 2nd in strikeouts 1152, They are 1st in not giving up runs (416).

The Mets batters are a serious weakness.  They rank 28th in the league at the plate.  21st in batting average (.237), 26th in home runs (122)... It’s all bad news.

The Mets are 9th in team ERA 3.72, 13th in strikeouts 1019, and 5th in not giving up runs 446.

Dodgers Vs Mets Game Preview:

The Dodgers have to contend with the San Francisco Giants ahead of them and the San Diego Padres behind them. The Dodgers hitters are hitting.  The best way to see how well is to look at the Statistical Comparison in this very article.  See how all the Dodgers hitters are leading in something… except the two best Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger.  Health in the postseason means the Dodgers are this year’s “team of destiny” and no one can stop them.  They don’t have to worry about the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, or even the Houston Astros.  They will shell whoever they face in the World Series.

The Dodgers will start total stud Walker Buehler.  The righty is 12-2, 2.13 ERA, with 152 STRIKEOUTS.  His WHIP is 0.93!  He’s seen a general 12% improvement this season over last season’s numbers.  The 24 year old Lexington Kentucky product whether in Chase Field, Fenway Park, T-mobile Park, or at home in Dodger Stadium he wins ball games.

The Mets have to contend with the Philadelphia Phillies barely ahead of them and the Atlanta Braves basically tied with them.  Like the rest of the League they can ignore the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals. ESPN will tell you this is the time of the year to start watching NFL player Cam Newton try to win his job at the Patriots before he winds up in the CFL… or maybe check out a Minnesota Vikings game?... Mets fans should listen, Dodgers fans won’t.

The Mets will put Emmanuel Walker on the mound 7-7, 3.89 ERA, 102 Strikeouts.  The 29 year old former Seattle Mariners pick in 2010 is a fine pitcher.  He can hold his own against most line-ups.  He mowed down the Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds earlier in the year… but he’s no match for Walker Buehler.

Notable quotes:

“We've got to get going, for sure,........But we can't worry about the Giants. Obviously, we have to win baseball games. If we take care of what we're supposed to take care of, it should take care of itself.”  -Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes about where they are at now.
“Over the course of 162 games, this team is built to last,.....I feel that, and I know I’m not the only guy that feels that.”  - Met’s star Pete Alonso… saying a vague bunch of silly nonsense.
