Wow!  A same-city inter conference matchup!  Los Angeles must be whipped into a frenzy…. No.  Los Angeles must be piqued with interest… no.  Turns out you should not believe the logo on every MLb hat.  The Dodgers are the team that represents Los Angeles and everyone in Los Angeles.  If you run into someone different you are running into a contrarian with severe mental illness.  The Angels do not actually play in Los Angeles… They play in Orange County… (the next county over)  possibly a 50 mile drive down the freeway and into the deep burbs.  In Los Angeles proper you never see Angels hats, jerseys, t-shirts, or car banners.  That is just how it is.  The Angels use the initials LA so their gear will sell out of market to angry teenagers who like the color RED.  The Angels should be called The Anaheim Angels or the Orange County Angels… Still the Dodgers get a benefit that only teams in Chicago and New York really understand… that is every now and then they get to play a road series while sleeping in their own beds in their own homes.  That is all the inter-city rivalry stands for in actual Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are red hot and winning like they want it all.  If only there wasn’t a historic Yankees team looming on the postseason horizon. The Dodgers have won 8 of their last 10 games.  If you go back further you will see 10 of 12 and 13 of 16.  They are winning and making it count in the hard days of July.  They have expanded their lead over the NL West second place San Diego Padres to 6+ games.  In the last ten games they went 0-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals (with one more to play Thursday night), 4-0 against the Chicago Cubs in a Sweep, 3-0 against the Colorado Rockies in a Sweep, and 1-1 against the San Diego Padres.  The Dodgers are killing the game.  Having a great offense and a great pitching staff is really a big deal (who woulda thunk?).

The Los Angeles Angels have won only 2 of their last 10 games.  They are still barely clinging to the good start they had in spring.  Everyone laughs at the Angels because they have the game’s best player (Ohtani) and the game’s former best player (Trout)... and they are simply wasting their careers.  Hopefully Trout and Ohtani like money because that will be the only thing they take away from baseball.  They went 0-1 against the Houston Astros, 0-3 against the Baltimore Orioles in a depressing reverse Sweep, 1-1 against the Miami Marlins, 0-3 against the Houston Astros (again) in a reverse Sweep, and 1-0 against the Chicago White Sox.  The Angels are barely in the league at the moment, but they had a great start to the season… Then they started losing.  Then they fired their manager and installed an interim manager.  Then all hope was lost and it was all over.

The bet is the Dodgers on the moneyline AND ATS.  It is worth the outlay as the Angels don’t have any firepower that could counteract the Dodgers line-up.  The pitching matchup can be ignored as the Dodgers deep guys are better than some of the Angels starters.

The Angels are suffering outings of Mike Trout, SS D. Fletcher, 3B M. Duffy, 3B A. Rendon, and 1 starting pitcher and 5 relief pitchers.  They are drained.

Dodgers: TBD… whoever throws will be better than Sandoval.

Angels: LHP Patrick Sandoval, 3-4, 2.95 ERA, 84 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched.  1.39 WHIP.  The 25 year old could be something special… but it’s hard to get there without run support.
