Rockies: 31-41; 5th place NL West (last place)

A National League matchup between the best and worst teams in the NL.  The Dodgers are a winning machine with a great offense and a great group of pitchers.  They were built to win and the mission experiences pure failure every time someone else wins a World Series.  The Los Angeles Franchise is pot committed… They pay big bucks for the top talent and keep doing it if the next guy will get them to a higher level.  Several recent Former Dodgers (like Joc Pederson) have gone from 7th in a Dodger line-up to the best hitter on another club.  The Dodger bullpen is loaded with guys who would be starting pitchers for 90% of the other teams in the league, that reality is pricey… but it is their reality.  The Colorado Rockies have been National League doormats for a long, long time. Entire decades pass by without a peep from the Rockies in the postseason. The Rockies tend to excel in one thing while being substandard in everything else… This season the Rockies excel at batting average where they are 3rd in the league with an OBP that is 6th in the league!  They are good at the plate… but they have terrible pitching.  They are bottom 5 in every statistical pitching category I can find… even the obscure ones.  The biggest star on the Rockies is LF power hitter Khris Bryant… He is recognizable because he played a key role on the Cubs and the Giants during better years… At this moment and for this game… Khris is out with injury until late July.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 7 of their last 10 games.  Pitchers Julio Urias, Tyler Anderson, and Tony Gonsolin have all gotten two wins during the stretch while Dodger Legend Clayton Kershaw has been working his way back from injury and won HIS last game.  The team logged 4 Overs, 5 unders, and a Push during the stretch. They went 1-1 against the Atlanta Braves in a return to Atlanta for World Series Champ (with Atlanta) Freddie Freeman, 3-0 against the Cincinnati Reds, 1-2 against the Cleveland Guardians (not Braves.. Guardians), and 2-0 against The Los Angeles Angels.  The Dodgers have gotten into an odd groove this season where they destroy bad teams, but falter a bit versus good teams.  That does not bode well for the playoffs… but considering the Dodgers have major injury issues to their starting rotation of pitchers and even now to Mookie Betts… They may be an even better team come postseason time.  And if not they will spend the offseason trading a few guys and signing whoever is the obvious best free agent in baseball… They do it every year.

The Colorado Rockies have won 4 of their last 10 games.  RHP German Marquez has been their only two game winner during the stretch… Rockies’ RHP Chad Kuhl who is statistically the best winner of the season lost both of his games.  The team logged 3 Overs, 6 Unders, and a Push.  They went 1-1 against the Minnesota Twins, 0-3 against the Miami Marlins, 3-0 against the San Diego Padres (while doing the ultimate bizarre favor for the Dodgers, the Rockies have had the NL West’s 2nd place Padres team’s number this season… oddly), and 0-2 against the Cleveland Guardians.  The Rockies are a bad formula of good offense plus bad defense… They are rivaled in the NBA this season by the Charlotte Hornets… big scoring games with lots of losses.  The good part of having this identity is that they are assured of simply going after pitching at the trade deadline and the offseason… as a sure way to get better… but will they do it right?

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Colorado Rockies Prediction

Our prediction for Monday June 27th is…  Dodgers 9 - Rockies 4

Bet the Dodgers on the money line AND bet the OVER.  These are two very good hitting teams except one of them has terrible pitching… that is a pure formula for an OVER… even when Vegas sets that O/U number high.  The Dodgers beat the Reds 10-4, 8-4, and 8-2… all OVERS… The Rockies have better hitting than the Reds but worse pitching… That screams OVER.

Dodgers:  Tyler Anderson, total stud.

Rockies: RHP Chad Kuhl, 3.95, 52 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.  1.43 WHIP.  Chad is a 29 year old quality pitcher for the Bad Pitching Rockies.  He doesn’t have enough juice to handle the Dodgers line-up but he is not a bad start.

Weather Forecast

Partly Cloudy.  A high of 85* for the day.  Wind at 8 mph.  By gametime we could expect light showers and temperatures of 80*.  Summer has become rough in Denver… It has been unusually hot… but the partly cloudy diagnosis will make this an OK temperature by game time.  The 30% humidity will actually help make fans feel comfortable.
