D-Backs: 66-73, 4th place NL West

A Nationals League matchup between the best in the National League West… and the league… and the 4th place NL West team that has been a perennial doormat for as long as most fans can remember.  The Dodgers are a tough ask for any team in the MLB.  They are #1 in every statistical batting category of note… and #1 in every statistical pitching category of note.  The Boys in Blue are beginning to feel like a team of destiny.  The Arizona Diamondbacks are not top ten in any of those statistical categories offense or defense… In fact the ONLY category the D-backs are better than 20th is in runs scored… where they are 13th… of course that can be chopped up to the fact that the majority of their games are played against the Colorado Rockies, the San Diego Padres, and the San Francisco Giants… all teams that are struggling mightily with pitching this season.  That fact does cast a bit of shade on the Dodgers numbers since they play all the same teams,  Still it is hard to ignore that the Dodgers first three batters in any given game are future HOF’ers in their prime.  After the first three in the lineup the Dodgers are stacked with home run hitters.  They will eat most teams alive on most nights.  Let’s find the Great Betting opportunity here in the pitching matchup.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won only 5 of their last 10 games AFTER having the most dominant August in recent memory for anyone.  The faltering started with some losses to the New York Mets… then they lost 1 to the Padres out of 3 and 1 to the Giants out of 3… which dropped them immediately back into another series with the Padres where they lost the first game.  It has been rough.  To add pressure to this situation full-fledged Dodger ACE Tony Gonsolin hit the injury list right before the losing started… that led to an experimentation phase in the pitching rotation.  The Dodgers are looking for a few young guys to show that they are playoff ready “if needed”... Tony will be back soon, but they still had to experiment.  They went 1-1 against the San Diego Padres, 2-1 against the San Francisco Giants, 2-1 against the San Diego Padres, and 0-2 against the New York Mets during that span.  The Mets losses are seriously the most troubling since that is really the only team the Dodgers have to worry about come playoff time.  Lots of season left though.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have won only 4 of their last ten games.  That directly correlates to their 65-73 record.  They lose more than they win and they have for years.  The bad stats declare that this team will not be in the postseason discussion at all. With 24 games to play and lodged at 8 games below .500… They are against mathematical elimination… NOW.  A 20 game win streak would not help unless it became a 24 game win streak.  Diamondback players are used to playing in anonymity since the world has not heard of Christian Walker (32 home runs) or Stone Garrett (Stone has only played briefly but is hitting .424 over 10 games).  They went 0-2 against the Colorado Rockies, 1-2 against the San Diego Padres, 3-1 against the Milwaukee Brewers, and 0-1 against the Philadelphia in an 18-12 loss in what might have been the MOST little league game played in the majors this year.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, September 12th is… Dodgers 9 - D-Backs 4

The Dodgers can score on anybody and the D-Backs have shown a deep proclivity to give up runs.  They gave up 13 to Colorado and 18 to Philly and 8 to Milwaukee in losses over the last 10 games.  The bet is for the Dodgers.  The idea is to spot 2.5 points to your book and get a real return on your money.  If you do not like that risk simply take the small money on the money-line… but it will be small money.
