Season Record

Seattle: 57-50, 2nd place AL West
Angels: 45-61, 4th place AL West

Amazingly, the Angels beat the Mariners 4-3 in the first game of this series on Friday night.  We have a long Saturday with a double-header between these two… followed by THIS GAME, Game 4 on Sunday.  Both in the doubleheader on Saturday and in the game on Sunday… the Mariners will be and should be favored.  Check out the numbers and predictions and make that money.

An American League West matchup of a good team and a trash team with a couple of all-time great players.  The Seattle Mariners turned July into a winning bonanza.  A winning tsunami.  A mack daddy, whalloping everyone, killing the game, slot-machine of W’s.  Also they won enough games to make them relevant after starting the season as just another piece of trash in the AL West. The Angels turned July into a bonanza of losing!  Perfectly mirroring the franchise of the last several years and the franchise as it moves into the future.  The conundrum comes form Angels pitcher/batter Shohei Ohtani is the current day Babe Ruth and injured Center Fielder Mike Trout has been the best player of the last decade.  The franchise does not benefit from this… and the two players do not benefit from the franchise.  The Angels have the talent to bite the Mariners… but the Mariners are the better team by far…. So where should I put MY MONEY?... Or better yet!.. Where should you put YOUR MONEY?

The Seattle Mariners have won 6 of their last 10 games as they come crashing back down to earth after their amazing 17 game win streak.  They went 2-1 against the New York Yankees, 1-3 against the Houston Astros (particularly vexing as it was in division), and 3-0 against the Texas Rangers.  It is heartening to win in the MLB at a near historic rate over a short period of time… yet disheartening to immediately lose once the big buoy of your division shows up for a rumble.  The Mariners suffer from good pitching supported by bad offense.  I do not expect great things from them nor should you.

The Los Angeles Angels have won 4 of their last 10 games.  They amazingly lost a game to the Oakland A’s while the Angels had 7 solo home runs!!... Two from Shohei Ohtan!!... The final score was A’s 8 - Angels 7.  We can now all laugh at the Angels.  Seriously… losing a 7 home run game is literally as bad as it gets.  It puts them in the very dark pages of the record books!  It also highlights to Shoehei Ohtani that he should reach free agency or force a trade while never signing any contract that would hold him to the Angels ever, ever, ever.  They went 1-2 against the Oakland A’s, 1-3 against the lowly Texas Rangers, and 2-1 against the lowly Kansas City Royals.  The Angels have several horrible fatal flaw… but the first and chief among them would be the penchant to sign big time players to huge contracts and simply forget to build a team around them.  If the Angels tomorrow traded away Ohtani, Trout, Jose Rojas, Taylor Ward, and Rendon in separate deals with say… The Dodgers, Mets, Padres, and Whomever… the resulting avalanche of minor leaguers and lesser starters would IMPROVE the Angels… It may even buy the Angels a future of getting near the playoffs.  And if they spent money on top of that?... The sky would be the limit!!  But until then… They are a dumpster fire.  If they want me to step in and do it for them… I would throw darts at a dartboard and do better than the Angels have done on their own in decades.  Seriously… give me a call.  Or call anyone else in the phonebook and get ready for better results.

Los Angeles Angels vs Seattle Mariners Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, August 7th is… Mariners 6 - Angels 3

The Angels won the first game of the series and that should be it.  That really should.  The Angels can not go very deep into the pitching staff without finding tumbleweeds.  The Mariners should take this one easily.  Bet on the Mariners on the moneyline.

Angels: DH Shoehei Ohtani,, LF Taylor Ward, 2B Luis Refugio, 1B Jared Walsh, RF Jonathan Villar, Cf Brandon Marsh, C Max Stassi, SS Andrew Valazquez, PH Michael Stefanic

Weather Forecast

Sunny for a change in Seattle.  Humidity 46%, Wind 10 mph.  Game 1 will be played in the noon heat on the west coast.  There is always a chance of precipitation in Seattle, but at 10% it is very very low for this sunny summer day.
