This is a doubleheader with Game 1 playing  at 1:05 PM ET.  We are focusing on Game 1 on Thursday June 2nd.

An MLB American League matchup between the best of the East and a solid team from the West.  The Yankees have looked amazing so far in the young season and have a full 5 game lead in the tough AL East.  Historically speaking they have met milestones… Like through the first 20 games, the first 30 games, the first 40 games where the only previous Yankee teams to have matching win percentages all won the World Series.  That is a good start.  The Angels have risen to 2nd place in the AL West division… which if you know Angel history?... You know it’s a pretty great start for them as well. The only team above the Angels in the West are the Astros, the hated, cheating Astros.  The question: what is the great betting opportunity?... Seems to have a simple answer.  It would obviously be The Yankees will win at home and the moneyline is not too steep… But with the Angels the real work isn’t done until you inspect the starting pitching match-up… and find out about the health of Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout.

The Los Angeles Angels have won just 3 of their last 10 games.  They are on a viciously bad 5-game losing streak.  They went 5 Over, 4 Under, and 1 Push during that stretch.  They were swept by the Toronto Blue Jays 0-4, Went 1-1 against the Texas Rangers, 2-1 against the Oakland Athletics (a team actively trying to lose), and 0-1 against the Texas Rangers.  The last ten games have been devastating for the Angels with losses coming in bunches.  The Angels have the best player in baseball in Shohei Ohtani.  The guy can pitch well, and is among the best hitters ever to step into the box… He is followed in the line-up by the previous best player in baseball Mike Trout.  These are the type of guys who will have melancholy Hall of Fame speeches… They won’t win enough, but the numbers will say they were at a time the best players in baseball.  The fault of all of this is a tragic team ownership group that is fine with just having a team in Orange County, California.  The BS about their being the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is so rotten… no one in Los Angeles is driving the hour away to go to Angels games.  Team management never makes the big push to win beyond giving a big $$ contract to a young great and then watching him flounder for a decade.

The New York Yankees have won 5 of their last 10 games.  Not a good week for these tough Yankees at all!  They went 4 Over and 6 Under.  The Yankees have a great mix of top ten batting and top five pitching.  Plus their own East division has regressed with the Red Sox and the Blue Jays not looking at all as strong as they did last season.  The season is young… we still have 70% of the games left to play… It all could change, but right now the Yankees are the best team in the American League on a bit of a stagnant patch.  Yankees star Aaron Judge has figured out whatever it was he needed to figure out last season.  Judge simply hits the ball.  From the DH spot Aaron leads the Yankees in Home runs, Batting average, and OPS.  This first p[lace team has been missing their other DH Giancarlo Stanton to the injury list, he will return in mid-June to bolster an already potent offensive attack.

Los Angeles Angels vs New York Yankees Prediction

Our prediction for Thursday, June 2nd is….  Angels 7 - Yankees 3

If you can’t beat em’... They are probably the 2022 Yankees.  This team is tough and took Game 1 with a score of 9-1.  They are again at home. Game 2 however features RHP Shohei Ohtani on the mound for the Angels.  Shohei has a knack for hitting better in games that he pitches in.  The best attempt at a win for the Angels, in this series with the Yankees, will be in the game that Shohei is on the mound.

MLB Betting Trends

The Yankees are 8-2 when the money-line is +125 to -125.
The Yankees are 137-96 as a favorite of -110 or higher the last 3 seasons.
The Angels have 56 OVERS and 31 UNDERS against left handed starters the last 3 seasons.

Key Injuries

Angels: C K. Suzuki (neck) Quest ** 3B A. Rendon (wrist) Out ** SS D. Fletcher (groin) Out

Yankees: DH Giancarlo Stanton (calf) Out,** 3B J Donaldson (shoulder) Out ** C B. Rortvedt (oblique) Out ** CF T. Locastro (back) Out

Players To Watch

Angels: RHP Shohei Ohtani, 3-3, 3.45 ERA, 63 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched.  1.04 WHIP.  Shohei Ohtani is the best player the Angels have… and possibly the best player in the American League… and maybe the best baseball player in all of Major League Baseball.  His pitching numbers are fine enough to be an ACE… his batting numbers are fantastic too.  His management should be pushing the Angels for a trade to a team that is better equipped to win games.

Yankees: LHP Nestor Cortes, 4-1, 1.70 ERA, 61 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched, 0.85 WHIP.  Nestor is a 27 year old dynamo.  He has a mustache and has been throwing fire this season.

Starting Lineups

Angels: RF Taylor Ward, DH Shohei Ohtani, CF Mike Trout, 1B Jared Walsh, 2B Luis Rengifo, LF Brandon Marsh, C Max Stassi, SS Andrew Velazquez, 3B Tyler Wade
Yankees: 3B DJ LeMahieu, DH Aaron Judge, 1B Anthony Rizzo, 2B Gleyber Torres, LF Miguel Andujar, CF Aaron Hicks, SS Isiah Kiner-Falefa, C Kyle Higashioka, RF Joey Gallo

MANAGER

Angels: Joe Maddon
Yankees: Aaron “No, I'm not related to Aaron Judge… That’s not how relations work” Boone

Weather Forecast

Mostly cloudy. Low temp during the day of 69* will dip even further when the sun sets.  Humidity of 73% and a precipitation chance of 20%.  The wind will blow slightly at 9 mph.  But remember it is New York… you are not supposed to enjoy yourself… you are supposed to spend money.
