Recent Form:

The Angels are 5-5 over their last ten games, with 5 Overs and 5 Unders.  They swept the Detroit Tigers 3-0lost to the Yankees 0-1, went 1-2 against the Houston Astros, and 1-2 against the Toronto Blue Jays.  They never have long winning streaks or long losing streaks, just a dribble of both.  This is an up and down team. They beat the Tigers on Thursday 13-10 (total shootout), but on Wednesday they beat them 3-1 (let’s watch the grass grow)... up and down the schedule the only consistency you see is average play.  Ownership of the Angels will really bring shame on baseball if they don’t soon start spending over the cap.  Few teams in history have had two players at once as good as Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani at the same time.  If they keep plodding along content to have bobblehead promotions and take their cut of TV revenue… it’ll be a total waste of a great moment in time.  They (Angels ownership) should be booed at every chance.

Cleveland is 4-6 over their last ten games with 4 Unders and 6 Overs (no they don’t match the wins and losses).  They went 1-2 against the Minnesota Twins, 2-1 against the Detroit Tigers, got swept by the Oakland A’s 3-0, and beat the Cincinnati Reds 1-0.  A team that goes 3-3 in six games against a combo of the Twins and Tigers is just a team spinning their wheels until it’s all over.

Statistical Comparison:

The Angels are 6th in batting average .252, 13th in runs scored 563, 12th in home runs 153… why such an average record?  Shohei Ohtani is doing most of it.  That guy needs to be surrounded by a quality lineup to see where he can take you.

The Angels are 23rd in team ERA 4.66, 9th in strikeouts 1132, 15th (average)  in home runs given up147.  Why such bad ERA numbers… because Shohei Ohtani is doing most of the good stuff.  They really ought to get that kid some Aces to play alongside.

Angels Vs Indians Game Preview:

The Angels starting pitcher will be lefty Reid Detmers 1-2, 7.04 ERA, 13 strikeouts in 15 innings of work, 1.43 WHIP.   Reid made his MLB debut Aug 1st (just 20 days ago) and the 22 year old is still very green.  The 7.04 ERA isn’t concerning nor is the losing record.  He is getting his feet wet while other Angels are nursing sore parts like knee, ankle, pride….  and when the 2020 1st round pick has gotten to see how good even the average major league hitter is… he’ll be shipped back down to work on what he needs to work on.

The Cleveland Indians pitcher is TBD… TO. BE. DECIDED.  He’s rarely an Ace.  This is really a matchup of divisions going different directions.  The Angels are in 4th place with a winning record slightly above .500 in the West.  The Indians are in second place with a losing record in the Central.  The Angels have the advantage here because not only are they doing better but they are doing it against harder teams to beat.  The Indians are worse than even their losing record implies.

Notable quotes:

"It's like watching Fabio hit a triple," -Angels manager Joe Maddon said about Brandon Marsh running the bases. Brandon hit 2 triples in their 13-10 win over Detroit.

"Once I'm given the opportunity to come back up here, make the most of it...Don't really think about when I'm going down, when I'm coming back up again. Just take it a day at a time playing up here and just play." -Daniel Johnson, a confused young player who hit a two run homer to help the Indians beat the Twins on Tuesday night.
