Braves: 57-38, 2nd place NL East

A Quality National league team versus a junk American League team.  The Atlanta Braves are recent World Series winners… They have maintained a quality pace even after losing star batter Freddie Freeman to the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The American League Los Angeles Angels are the junk team.  They have, without a doubt, two of the best players in all of baseball in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani… but they never succeed.  There is some correlation between spending money on the entire roster and winning… or just a few players and losing.  In fact that correlation is set in stone.  For success in the MLB you can not be a team with two good players and empty cupboards behind them.  In fact that is only a recipe for losing games while selling tickets.  Which is all the Angels seem to do.

The Los Angeles Angels only won two of their last 10 games.  It has led to an even further drop in the standings than they had when they fired their manager a month ago. They are circling the drain of 2022 waiting only to see what 3-4 teams fall down the drain before their inevitable flushing is complete.  It leaves Sports fans perplexed.  When will this team trade Mike Trout for prospects and a player?... Then, when will this team trade Ohtani to a contender for prospects, players, and cash?  Then will they be capable of building those prospects, players, and cash into something real?.. It is damn perplexing.  They went 0-1 versus the Atlanta Braves, 0-1 versus the Los Angeles Dodgers, 1-2 against the Houston Astros, 0-4 versus the Baltimore Orioles, and 1-0 against the Miami Marlins during that stretch.  It has been bad.  It has been damning… and it will not be fixed against a team as good as the Braves.

The Atlanta Braves have won 7 of their last 10 games.  A real team playing real ball.  They went 1-0 against the Los Angeles Angels, 2-1 against the Washington Nationals, 2-1 against the spectacular New York Mets, and 3-0 against the Washington Nationals (again).  The Braves get it done with Austin Riley hitting “dingers” and Dansby Swanson hitting .292… It also helps to have a top-ten pitching staff.  The Braves will fear no fear against the Angels.

Los Angeles Angels vs Atlanta Braves Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, July 24th is… Braves 5 - Angels 3

The Braves will keep dropping bombs on the Angesl regardless of who is pitching.  The Angels are due for a reckoning and the players (word on the street) are trying to force it.  Everyone of quality on the Angels desperately wants OUT.  The interim manager desperately wants his resume to get him a bench coach job with another club next season.  It is all a mess.  The bet is on the Braves on the moneyline.  Don’t look back, this is a 5 star guarantee. (I’m a sportswriter, not a handicapper… still though… 5 star.)

Key Injuries

Angels: CF Mike Trout (ribs) Out ** SS D. Fletcher (groin) Out ** 3B M. Duffy (back) Out ** 3B A. Rendon (wrist) Out

Braves: 2B R. Cano (head) Quest ** 2B O Albies (foot) Out ** C M. Pina (wrist) Out

Players to Watch

Angels: LHP Reid Detmers, 2-3, 4.11 ERA, 57 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched.  1.07 Whip.  This 23 year old phenom is throwing away the early part of his career in the wrong uniform.  Hopefully he is able to recover in a better uniform in a few years.

Braves: RHP Ian Anderson, 8-5, 4.79 ERA, 79 strikeouts in 92 innings pitched. 1.51 Whip. This 24 year old has laughable numbers at the moment… but he will get the run support needed to get another win.

Starting Lineups

Angels: DH Shoehei Ohtani,, LF Taylor Ward, 2B Luis Refugio, 1B Jared Walsh, RF Jonathan Villar, Cf Brandon Marsh, C Max Stassi, SS Andrew Valazquez, PH Michael Stefanic

Braves: RF Ronald Acuna Jr, SS Dansby Swanson, 1B Matt Olsen, 3B Austin Riley, C Travis d’Arnaud, LF Eddie Rosario, DH Marcell Ozuna, 2B Robinson Cano, CF Michael Harris

Manager:

Angels: Phil “what’s going on fellas?’ Nevin
Braves: Brian “look at my ring” Snitker

Weather Forecast

Isolated thunderstorms.  90*, Precipitation chance 40%, humidity 61%, wind 5 mph…. Basically everything awful about weather could happen at any moment.  It will be too hot… then too rainy… then lightning will kill random people at the behest of a higher power… then it will be muggy.  Wohoo!
