Kansas - Kansas State preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Kansas: lost 55-14 vs. Texas
Kansas State: won 48-31 at West Virginia

Well there's good news and bad news if you're a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks. The bad news, is that lost a lot of games lately. There have been a lot of instances where games have been lost that shouldn't have been lost, primarily due to injuries and they have not gone as planned as of late. The good news: you are getting your once-considered Heisman Trophy-caliber quarterback back for a bowl game in a few weeks. And I would venture to guess that a healthy Jalon Daniels gives Kansas a fighter chance against the Kansas State Wildcats this weekend.

You remember that great start from Kansas earlier in the year right? Well after they lost their star quarterback to injury, things went downhill pretty quick. Kansas lost to the likes of Oklahoma, Baylor, and Texas Tech, and then last week with Daniels returning, Kansas lost 55-14 to Texas. Not the most ideal situation as it pertains to Kansas but if there's anything to be excited about it's the fact that Daniels threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns in his return. Kansas just didn't get a lot of help from anywhere else.

But Daniels returning to The Jayhawks is good for a couple of things. Number one with coach Lance Leopold getting a contract extension, it's ensuring that Kansas is going to have a much better season next year with a healthy Daniels returning for his senior year. It also stands to be a good thing that Kansas is having this success now as it continues to build for the future knowing where this program was not too long ago. This is still the same quarterback that's thrown for 13 touchdowns to only two interceptions this year not to mention before he got hurt he was running the ball with absolute vigor.

So Kansas still has really a lot to play for here in terms of not just this year and trying to finish this year on a strong note, but also trying to build for the future in what could be a very successful year for Kansas next season. But if The Jayhawks were going to get their best from an opponent this week, it would be Kansas State. A win for the Wildcats officially clinches them a spot in the Big 12 title game against the TCU Horned Frogs which would set up a rematch from a few weeks ago.

Not that Kansas State wouldn't mind playing spoiler to TCU's College Football Playoff chances but it would absolutely create an interesting narrative for the next few weeks. Kansas State is coming off a 48-31 victory over West Virginia this past weekend. That followed a  31-3 win at Baylor two weeks ago, which was a perfect response after losing 34-27 to Texas not too long ago. So clearly Kansas State has gotten back on the right track and is playing great football right now with the combination of Adrian Martinez and Deuce Vaughn carrying the offense.

Prediction

Kansas State is laying 11.5 points at some books for this one and I would normally think that's a good number. This is of course the 12th-ranked team in the country and anytime you get into a spot where you have that kind of points, it's mainly because of your ranking. But after a week to prepare for returning from injury and him being at the time one of the best quarterbacks in the country, I have a strong suspicion that Daniels is going to revert back to his old form from earlier in the year and I think he finds a way to either keep it close or pull off the outright upset. Right now I have Kansas State winning, but it is going to be a one-score game. Kansas State by 3
