Recent Form:

The Yankees are 8-2 over their last ten games.  That’s 8-2 on the moneyline, 7 Unders, 3 Overs.  They beat Kansas City in the first of this 3 game series ( tonight is game 2, we are talking about 08/11 Wednesday’s game 3 in this article), took 2 from the Marlins, 2 of 3 against Baltimore, 3 of 4 against Seattle.  Having a meatball series like Kansas City gives them confidence they could catch Boston sooner than later.

The Royals are 3-7 over their last ten games.  The three wins were surprises as Kansas City were heavy underdogs in all ten moneylines.  During the stretch they logged 6 Unders and 4 Overs.

The Monday night game 1 of this series was a brutal 8-6, 11 inning, five hour marathon.  The bullpens got some work… and some overtime.  The Royals hope over the next few days is that they catch the Yankees sleeping and grab 1 game.

Statistical Comparison:

The Yankees are 18th in batting average, 22nd in runs scored, and 17th in Home Runs.  Not the best year in Yankee batting history.  They are however on a streak that keeps bringing them closer and closer to the Boston Red Sox to challenge for 2nd in the AL East.  While there is no guarantee of anything, they will need to keep moving up for a chance at a wild card selection.

The Yankees pitchers are 8th in team ERA 3.67, 10th best in runs allowed, and 6th in strikeouts.  They are doing solid work from the mound and that is what is keeping the fans in Yankee stadium hoping for success this year.  They are among the pack of teams still daring to dream (White Sox, Padres,  Giants) as if we all aren’t certain it will be Astros vs Dodgers again… this time with no banging trash cans.

The Royals’ batters are 16th in batting average .241, 25th in runs scored (457), and 27th in Home Runs (113).  There are few spots left to go but up.

The Royals’ pitchers  are 26th in team ERA 4.90, 19th in strikeouts (947), and 24th in runs allowed (that’s bad not good).  Anyone with a quality arm in Kansas City has been traded away or made to rest as the team uses the remaining schedule to hard boil prospects and young talent.  The peanut vendor has the best curve in Kauffman Stadium.

Yankees vs Royals Game Preview:

The pitching matchup will decide this one for sure.  At press time (now) The New York Yankees starting pitcher will be TBD… that’s right good ol’ To Be Decided.  The Kansas City Royals starting pitcher will be Brady Alan Singer 3-7, 5.13 ERA, 92 strikeouts in 87 innings pitched.  Brady was the 18th pick of the 2018 MLB draft.  Brady is 6’5, 215 lbs long and lean with just a subtle beginning of a mullet.  Brady has the never ending fountain of energy known as youth. He was born in 1996, only 25 years old. He has never lived in a world with a living Kurt Cobain.  Surely, Brady will be better than an undecided Yankee coaching staff planning to throw out to the mound whatever scrub looks good in warm-ups…. Right?  No,  Brady is pitching because the Royals have nothing to gain from the season, but to give young guys like him Major League experience in regular season games.  Whoever the Yankees trot out to begin this bullpen game won’t have to face the Yankees batters…. Brady will.  Young, inexperienced Brady Alan Singer will remember this day in 2021 as the day Aaron Judge gave him a physics lesson in just how far a baseball can be hit.

The advantage is with the Yankees. No matter who pitches at this point in the season (11-aug-21) the two clubs are playing with radically different goals and agendas.  Good work for Brady in this one would be to only give up 3 runs before the reliever.  Great work would be only 1 run (win or lose)... but mark my word.  A Bronx Bomber will go yard off him.

Notable quotes:

“So many people did stuff tonight… on a scorching hot night they kept coming”  - Aaron Boone, Yankees manager about Monday night's 11 inning win over the Royals.

“A lot of weird things happened”  -Hanser Alberto, Royals infielder, who had a game tying RBI single in the 10th to extend Monday’s game into the 11th.

“Enough already!... You guys are always watching baseball!”  - Hannah, my nephew’s girlfriend.

Trends:

Yankees: 21.5% chance to make the postseason.

Royals:  0.1% chance of making the postseason.
