Finally!  Finally, Matthew Stafford has a patsy that will take a loss. The Rams are on a three-game losing streak and desperately need a matchup against a cellar-dweller. Nov was terrible for the Rams as they went 0-3… December they hope is a return to winning at the 7-1 rate they had been earlier in the season. For entertainment purposes the Rams Super Bowl odds dropped precipitously during November… They lost and lost and lost… to the Green Bay Packers, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Tennessee Titans.  The whispers are creeping in since those recent games “Hey, Matt Stafford has always been a loser”.... “ Your coach gave up on creativity”... “ When will you get enough from the offensive side of the ball?”... “The Lions won the trade”... It’s been bad.  Yet they are a great team full of stars… So, what should happen?

The Jaguars have young QB Trevor Lawrence who is perfecting the art of avoiding interceptions. Everyone can see this season is only a practice season for Trevor.  When the dust clears the Jags will miss the playoffs and overhaul the roster with high draft picks and ample room for free agents under the cap. The Jags are also losers of three straight games. This NFL season is lost… the immediate remaining goal is to pad stats and keep everyone healthy for next year.

The Jaguars are 2-9 on the season, but 4-7 ATS.  They have logged 2 Overs and 9 Unders.  They are an awful 0-4 on the road.  

The Rams are 7-4, but 4-7 ATS.  They have notched 6 Overs, 4 Unders, and 1 Push.  They are 3-2 at home in SoFi Stadium.

 

The Jacksonville offense is 31st in scoring in the NFL with 15.7 ppg and 25th in ypg with 322.8.  That breaks down to 24th in passing yards and 13th in rushing yards.  They will probably lean heavily on the run game while playing the Rams to avoid waking the Rams amazing pass rush that has been dormant of late.

The Rams are 8th in points per game with 27.2, 12th in ypg with 384.1… 5th in passing yards and 24th in rushing yards.  The offense is going through a transition as they added WR Odell Beckham JR and later that same day WR Robert Woods went down with a season ending knee injury.  Add to that that they lost RB Cam Akers right before the season started to a season ending Achilles tear and that his replacement RB Sony Michel hasn’t been very productive… It has been a challenge to live up to the hype surrounding all the famous faces and big names on the roster.

The Jacksonville defense ranks 20th in the NFL.  They give up 360.3 yards per game.  It breaks down to 18th in pass defense and 21st in run defense.  They are 26th in defending points having allowed a generous 25.7 ppg.  They are last (32nd) in takeaways with only 6 on the season.  

The Rams are 15th on defense in the NFL, they give up 351.6 yards per game.  They are 21st in pass defense giving up 247.6 ypg… Despite having the best pass rusher in the NFL in Aaron Donald, the other Rams D-line players have not lived up to the challenge of playing next to him.  To address this the Rams added future HOF DE Von Miller from the Broncos via trade, he has yet to get into the swing of things and will be playing in only his 3rd game as a Ram against the Jaguars.

 

 

Our prediction for Sunday, December 5th is….  Rams 35 - Jaguars 13

 

The Rams will easily return to form against the Jaguars.  I wouldn’t dream of recommending Over or Under as it is tough to predict if the Jaguars will score at all.

Jaguars:  Urban Meyer.  Coach Meyer is in his first season as an NFL head coach after having a storied college coaching career.  He is one heck of a party animal!

Rams: Sean McVay.  Coach McVay is the boy genius of the NFL.  His initial success with the Rams a few years ago launched the coaching careers of a half-dozen young head coaches in the NFL, both directly and indirectly. The knock on him as of late is he has decreased the aggressive, deceptive offensive plays that were his calling card and gone for a more polished look with Matt Stafford as his QB… It seems to be a mistake.  Stafford could use some of the trickery put back in the game plan.
