Jaguars vs Cowboys Prediction

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be meeting the Dallas Cowboys for one last NFL preseason football matchup before the kickoff of the real season. The Jaguars are in the AFC South division with the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans. The Jags have gone 0-2 through this preseason so far scoring a total of 34 points and allowing 46 points in those 2 games. They lost their first preseason game to the Cleveland Browns 23-13 and lost their last one to the New Orleans Saints 23-21. The Cowboys are in the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Washington Redskins. The Cowboys are actually 0-3 this preseason, including the Hall of Fame game where they lost 16-3 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They lost in preseason week 1 19-16 to the Arizona Cardinals and in their last game 20-14 to the Houston Texans. They have scored 33 points and allowed 55 points through 3 preseason games now.

The Jags are coming off of a close 23-21 loss to the Saints in their last game. They had 3 of their roster quarterbacks play and all 3 had solid games. Their draft pick rookie QB Trevor Lawrence completed 13/23 passes for 113 yards, Gardner Minshew completed 13/21 passes for 149 yards and 1 interception, and C.J. Beathard completed 9/14 passes for 121 yards and 2 touchdown passes. They were not able to get anything going in the run game though as their team had less than 50 yards on the ground overall. Their receivers had a good game though as 3 of them were able to accumulate more than 40 yards each. They also had 9 different receivers average more than 10 yards per catch showing that they really went for the bigger plays trying to push the ball down the field. The Jags came close in their last game and the players did play well in that one so they could be in for their first win in their exhibition games against a struggling Dallas side.

The Cowboys are coming off of a 20-14 loss to the Texans in their last game. Ben DiNucci struggled at the quarterback position in that one completing 14/19 passes for 120 yards but no touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Cooper Rush had a better outing than him completing 10/12 passes for 97 yards, no interceptions and a pair of touchdowns. Their running game was mediocre as a few different players carried the ball but only 2 of them rushed for over 20 yards in the game. The ball was also spread around quite a bit as no one receiver had a breakout game but 7 different Cowboys’ receivers had over 20 yards receiving. The Cowboys will have some starters join the mix in this one but with their leader Dak Prescott still out as we await another injury update, they could be in for another big struggle in this one especially with their defense giving up a lot of points.

The Jags looked really good in their last game despite losing by 2 points. Dallas have done nothing but disappoint on offense in every preseason game as their quarterbacks struggle to fill the hole that the missing Dak Prescott leaves. Whether they have a heavy amount of starters playing or not, the Jaguars are just playing better and will be looking for at least 1 win in this preseason to build off of going into the regular-season of the NFL. They should be taking all the bets as they will cover this spread as the Cowboys get blown out again in this one.

Key Injuries

Jacksonville Jaguars:  Marvin Jones (WR) Questionable for week 1 with a shoulder - AC joint injury.
Dallas Cowboys:  Dak Prescott (QB) Questionable for week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a shoulder injury.

Players to Watch

Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, Gardner Minshew, and C.J. Beathard are all players to watch in this final preseason game. All 3 quarterbacks were able to throw for 100+ yards and have really been able to move the ball on this offense. They will all likely get some more playing time here as they all try to prove that they can be the clear cut starter for this team at the quarterback position.

Dallas Cowboys: Leighton Vander Esch is one player to watch on this defense. He will be playing in front of the fans in this one and is likely to get some more playing time to get ready for week 1. In his last game, he recorded 3 tackles and 1 assist but did not get a sack in that one. He can be electric on this defense so look for him to have a good game as the defense will have to step up for the Cowboys to keep this game close.
