We're about to hit the fun part of college football season where games start getting a little tighter, performances start to become a little more noteworthy, and times at the books are fun for all. You don't believe me? Look at our own Kyle Hunter posting a 25-7-0 run over the last month in college football. That's even with all of the upsets and everything in between. Week 7 is upon us and we're near the point where college football is every day. You want to get back into the swing of things with this? Make sure to follow our Best Bets page and see what our champion handicappers are up to at bigal.com. Who knows? With a little bit of faith in us, you can be like Kyle, or even have as good a run as Sean Murphy at 32-16-1 over the last 30 days. The choices are yours!

Iowa State - Texas preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Iowa State: lost 10-9 vs. No. 20 Kansas State
Texas: won 49-0 vs. Oklahoma

A new week, another chance for the Texas Longhorns to get back in the top 25. It helps to completely destroy your biggest rival and wipe them from oblivion like they’re Thanos and the Sooners are the Avengers, only these Avengers gave up midway through the second quarter and were already wiped off the planet by then and we’ll see them in five years, or something like that.

The Longhorns may have reached the sweetest vindication of the Red River Rivalry with a 49-0 win over Oklahoma last week and moving to No. 22 in the nation, while the Sooners continue to free fall under the most ridiculous of circumstances. But Texas can move to 5-2 and reach its third conference win with a home victory on Saturday against the Iowa State Cyclones, who have lost three in a row – all in conference play – all by seven points or less.

The biggest thing for Texas is that Quinn Ewers made his return after a collarbone injury knocked him out of the Alabama game a few weeks ago. Ewers responded in kind by throwing for 289 yards and four touchdowns, and running back Bijan Robinson ran for 130 yards and two scores in a game that was most certainly over by halftime. Texas outgained the banged-up Sooners 585-195, which might be illegal in every state but Texas.

"It's a tribute to these guys," coach Steve Sarkisian said. "What a moment. It's something they can carry with them. These guys, we've been playing good defense all year. We really have. I hate it that one half of a game all of a sudden defines who we were a couple of weeks ago."

Any time Texas or Oklahoma gets the better of each other, it’s a big moment in the Big 12, not just the schools involved. Texas’ romp is overshadowed currently by Oklahoma State and TCU, the top teams in the Big 12 by a country mile. But Texas has shown it can still hang around and be dangerous against anyone.

"Coming to Texas, you circle this game on your calendar each year." Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown said. " Not being able to (put) that hat on... it's heartbreaking. But leaving with it this year, you're never going to forget that."

While Texas has taken care of business, Iowa State has fallen short of its own. The Cyclones, as mentioned, have lost their first three conference games by a combined margin of 11 points. The latest was a 10-9 loss to Kansas State at home, one week after losing to Kansas by 3 points. Clearly, Iowa State has shown it can hang with these teams. The Cyclones just can’t get the job done. ISU quarterback Hunter Dekkers threw for 198 yards on 22 of 38 passing, leading an offense that gained just 276 yards against the 20th-ranked Wildcats. Iowa State combined for 24 carries for 78 yards.

"I thought we had a good plan coming in," Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said. "Obviously, the inconsistency of that plan continues to show up."

Right now, if you’re Iowa State, you have to feel good about where your group is. But going into a tough environment in Austin is no easy feat. And quite honestly, I’m not sure how the Cyclones even have a chance in this one.

Prediction

Texas is 10-3 straight up in its last 13 as a home favorite, and I’m not sure there’s anything else to be said about that. Texas does well when favored, and I think that’s going to come to fruition in this one. Texas by 21
