Oilers - Sharks preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Oilers: won 6-2 at Ducks
Sharks: lost 4-3 at Kings

The Edmonton Oilers will be playing the San Jose Sharks on Friday, January 13 in San Jose, California

The Edmonton Oilers won against the Anaheim Ducks last Wednesday, January 11 in Anaheim, California with a score of 6-2. The Edmonton Oilers currently rank 5th in the Pacific Division. Dylan Holloway, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Connor McDavid, Klim Kostin (twice) and Leon Draisaitl scored for the Oilers. First-year Oiler netminder Jack Campbell earned his 10th win in the orange, blue and white with 21 saves.

“It always feels good when you win the game,” Kostin stated. “We just want to continue to play that way and keep winning games.”

Edmonton Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft had this to say about his team.
“What I really liked about our team was our push, and fight, and passion in that third period in L.A. and I thought that kind of went into tonight’s game. In tonight’s game, I thought control play from the start and I got contributions from lots of different people, and special teams were excellent tonight. It’s a recipe for a good win for us.

The Edmonton Oilers have won half of their last 10 games.

The San Jose Sharks lost against the L.A. Kings last Wednesday, January 11 in Los Angeles, California with a score of 4-3. The San Jose Sharks currently rank 7th in the Pacific Division. Nick Bonino tied it 1-1 at 1:20 of the second period. Timo Meier had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who were playing the second game of a back-to-back following a 4-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday. James Reimer allowed four goals on 37 shots.

"We're there every game and just can't get wins," Bonino said. "It's frustrating for everyone. We're trying everything in practice and video, competing, and it's just not going our way right now."

The San Jose Sharks have won three of their last 10 games.

"This is not easy, the season we've gone through," San Jose coach David Quinn said. "There's a lot of level of frustration because we feel like we've played better, but our record is what it is. I'm just proud of the way we competed and didn't give up. Even at 4-2, we kept playing and had chances to tie."

Prediction

You always have to be alert with the Oilers if they’re going to let one slip over the next few weeks, and it wouldn’t shock me that this one would be it. If Erik Karlsson gets going and has another one of his vintage performances, the Oilers could be in trouble. But much like the Ducks, the Sharks’ defense isn’t great in their own zone. Any time you can give McDavid and Draisaitl a rest, it’s going to fare well before facing Vegas on Saturday. Oilers 5, Sharks 3
