An interleague matchup between a horrid American League Team and an exemplary National League team.  The Detroit Tigers are who we say they are… They are bad.  They were bad last season and they have made no improvements we can see.  They did call a few guys up from the minors.. They did play around with the roster… but they are building on a mound of mud.  Without big changes this is basically a minor league team playing in the bigs.  The Dodgers are so exemplary that while losing the World Series last season… they signed the best player off the team that beat them. Every year the Dodgers are a contender.  Every year the Tigers are pretenders.  Why does it hurt so much when betting this early in the season?... OH cause the moneyline is so extreme.  If you bet on PointsBet you would have to put down $250 to win $100 if the Dodgers win (which is most likely)... but if a fluke happens?... Then the $100 you put down on the Tigers would pay $200!  These numbers are supposed to draw you in to betting against your better instincts… especially knowing that the worst team beats the best team every now and then…. Let’s look at the numbers.  It’s a long season and you want to be out ahead… before everything gets tight.

The Detroit Tigers are on a 3-game losing streak.  They have won only 4 of their last ten games. They took 1 form the Colorado Rockies, 1 from the New York Yankees, and 2 form the Kansas City Royals during that stretch.  They hit 3 Overs and 7 Unders during that stretch.  The season is young… but the results are the same as last year… The Tigers do not have much batting and the pitching is humdrum average.  3rd baseman Spencer Torkelson leads the Tigers in home runs with 3… He was a #1 pick by the Tigers in the draft in 2020… That is right.  The batting king in Detroit is a kid… who didn’t spend hardly any time in the minors… and is only averaging .224 from the plate.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on a two-game losing streak.  They have won 6 of their last ten games.  They took 1 from the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2 form the San Diego Padres, 2 from the Atlanta Braves, and 1 from the Cincinnati Reds during that stretch.  They are among the tops of the league in batting and pitching.  They have a murderers row of hitters.  The batting order of Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Trea Turner, Max Muncy, and Cody Bellinger in the 1-5 slots all could make an all-star game.  Yet every year the Dodgers start slow.  Every year the Dodgers find themselves playing catchup to someone… like the Giants last season.  For all the amazing hitters on the line-up and all the amazing pitchers who take the mound… The Dodgers just lost two games to the awful Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Tigers are 25th in runs scored with 3.35 per game, 20th in batting average with .223, and 17th in OBP with .306.

The Dodgers are 2nd in runs scored with 5.0 per game, and 10th in batting average with .242, and 5th in OBP with .330.

The Tigers are 12th in team ERA with 3.35, 10th in WHIP with 1.16, and 18th in strikeouts per game with 8.76.  The pitching is better than last season.  It is also a rotation with no room for error.  They are a single injury to a starter from being dust.

The Dodgers are 1st in ERA, FIRST, with 2.21, 1st in WHIP with 0.90, and 9th in strikeouts per game with 8.22.  The pitching is great.. The rotation isn’t complete though… 10 pitchers are out for a variety of reasons… now that number is really only 9 because Trevor Bauer will never pitch anywhere in MLB again… but the other nine have at least 5 important names to fill the bullpen and even be a 3rd starter.

Our prediction for Friday April 29th is...  Dodgers 5 - Tigers 1

The Dodgers will clearly kill the Tigers in an early season matchup.  The problem is the moneyline is so large you have to really figure if betting hundreds to win a hundred is worth it.  This will be my first 10 star pick of my writing career… If you have the $$ put $1000 down to win $400 and get a free bankroll.  I don’t think the Tigers will have enough runs support to  even challenge the Dodgers.  Now it is baseball… long season, occasional surprises… but it’s not really a deep thinking moment.
