NBA Standings

Pistons:  11-33, 14th place Eastern Conference
Jazz: 29-16, 4th place Western Conference

A drastic mismatch… a dismal Eastern Conference franchise that gets worse year after year against a quality contending Western Conference team that seems to be holding a top five spot year after year.  This article is about betting opportunities ONLY… some teams are fun to write about, but not the Detroit Pistons.  The Detroit Pistons are so terribly terrible that they managed to let the Orlando Magic get to last place under them… so in a season when losing is all they can do?... They don’t even do that well.  The Utah Jazz are normally a fun team to write about… great shooting, great defense, a pair of quality stars, but when they are playing the Pistons… what is there to write  C Rudy Gobert should dominate whoever the Pistons put on the floor while SG Joe Ingles and PG Mike Conley pick up the scoring hole left by all-star SG Donovan Mitchell who will miss this game as he recovers from a concussion.

The Detroit Pistons have won 5 of their last ten games.  Sadly 5 wins in ten tries is the team’s best ten game stretch of the season. They are 5-5 ATS in that stretch as they benefit from being underdogs by very large point spreads in every matchup.  That of course also means that in the losses they lost ATS while being +15.5, +11.5, +13.5, +13.5, + 10.5…. They have lost ATS while being spotted by DOUBLE DIGITS in points during their last five losses.  A rumor floated this week that the Pistons offered SF Jerami Grant, SF Saddiq Bey, and PF Kelly Olynyk, plus a pick or two for Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons…. It is so like the Pistons to offer junk in exchange for Trash.

The Utah Jazz are favored by 14 points in this one… and when the Sportsbooks set this line they knew full well that the Jazz would be missing their best player Donovan Mitchell.  The Jazz are in their worst stretch of the season so far… They have only won 3 of their last ten games.  Still they are favored by double digits over the Pistons.

Detroit Pistons vs Utah Jazz Prediction

Our prediction for Friday, January 21st is….  Jazz 118 - Pistons 99

This is a get right game for the struggling Utah Jazz.  They will see the Pistons as much needed softballs.  Plus a few of the Pistons players may still be stinging from hearing their names in trade rumors to the Philadelphia 76ers… not that they wouldn’t want to go to a much better team… but simply that they are barely considered worth ¼ - ⅕ of the biggest current headache in the league and the team who considered the offer turned it down.  That has got to sting!!

Coaches

Detroit:  Dwayne Casey.  Coach Casey deserves better than this roster.  He should simply start the scrubs and sit the starters until they fire him… then take his severance to Hawaii.  The man is 64 years old… and he has coached good teams before.

Utah: Quin Snyder.  Every year Quin does a great job coaching this team into the playoffs… and that may be good enough for the Salt Lake City faithful.  Still I can’t help feeling that either Quin, Rudy, or Donovan must in order to produce different results.
