The Pistons opened the season badly.  They are already mired in a two-game losing streak, both games to the Chicago Bulls.  Wednesday 94-88 and Friday 97-82.  It was just a quirk in the schedule that the Pistons played the Bulls twice to open the season , but it sure benefitted the Bulls.  The Pistons are a desperately young squad at the start of a rebuild and their big draft acquisition #1 pick Cade Cunningham will be missing a chunk of time with an ankle injury.  As expected they played poor defense and shot the ball poorly.  Just 18% from three-point range in game 1 and 18% from 3-pointers in Game 2.  The lone bright spot so far is forward Jerami Grant who is averaging 16.5 points a game over the first two.  This is a team that will be playing a full season of NBA basketball while looking forward the whole time to the 2022 draft.

The Hawks season-opening dominating win over the Dallas Mavericks 113-87 was a continuation of the coming out party that started in last season’s playoffs.  Star Hawks’ guard Trae Young must have felt great beating Dallas by 26 points.  Dallas is where his arch-rival Luka Doncic plays… the two were traded for each other on draft night a few years back and it is widely accepted that Dallas won the trade… because Luka is a perennial MVP candidate.  Yet here Trae sits in Atlanta… an all-star himself… on a better, deeper team.  In Game 2 they stubbed their toe hard… they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers (which nobody should be doing) 101-95.  The season is long and it is early.

Ben Burns KNOWS basketball! To nobody's surprise, Ben is off to a 5-1-1 start (5-2 for some) to his new NBA campaign, entering Sunday. Dating back to last season, he's now an AMAZING 19-3 his L22 NBA releases, 8-2 with his totals and 11-1 with his sides. Better than all that, top rated basketball plays are on a long-term $91K PROFIT RUN. Be there! Pistons and Hawks Preview and Analysis

Offensive Analysis
The Pistons are still hunting their first win of the season and will have trouble finding it with these numbers.  The Pistons are 30th (last place) in the NBA on points per game, 27th in field goal percentage, 30th in 3 point field goal percentage.  They trailed against the Bulls from tip-off to final whistle in their second game.  It would be more of a contest if they abandoned the perimeter and let the youngsters use their athleticism to get to the rim, but NBA teams are all shooting threes and so will they.

The Hawks will play hosts to the Pistons and they need a matchup like this at home. A home win would erase the taste of the last game when their shots were not falling from behind the arc. The Hawks are in the league in points scored… but that is because of the one bad game in Cleveland and the small sample size.  They are 14th in 3 point percentage and 9th in offensive rebounds per game.  This is a playoff team… especially if they start getting more from Cam Reddish off the bench.
